This bolide was spotted over Spain on 7 December 2021, at about 2:13 local time (equivalent to 1:13 universal time). The event was generated by a rock from an asteroid that hit the atmosphere at about 90,000 km/h. The fireball overflew the provinces of Sevilla and Córdoba. It began at an altitude of about 105 km over the northeast of Sevilla, moved northeast, and ended at a height of around 58 km over the southwest of the province of Córdoba.
This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Sevilla, La Hita (Toledo), La Sagra (Granada), Sierra Nevada, Huelva, Aljarafe, Calar Alto and Madrid (Universidad Complutense). The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).
This beautiful bolide overflew the south of the Iberian Peninsula on 2021 December 5, at about 0:07 spanish local time (equivalent to 23:07 universal time on Dec. 4). It was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from a comet that hit the atmosphere at around 100,000 km/h. It began at an altitude of about 105 km over the southwest of the province of Badajoz (Spain), moved northwest, and ended at a height of around 60 km over the east of the region of Alentejo (Portugal). The total length travelled by the meteoroid in the atmosphere was of about 51 km.
This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from several astronomical observatories located in Spain. The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).
On 4 December 2021, at about 5:08 local time (equivalent to 4:08 universal time), this stunning slow fireball crossed the night sky and was recorded from. This bolide was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from a comet that hit the atmosphere at about 83,000 km/h.
The fireball began at an altitude of about 99 km over the north of Morocco, moved northeast following an almost parallel trajectory with respect to the ground, and overflew the Mediterranean Sea. It ended at a height of around 100 km over the Sea, over a point located at around 85 km southeast of Ibiza (Balearic Islands, Spain).
The meteoroid that gave rise to this Earth-grazing bolide survived and left our atmosphere following a modified orbit around the Sun. In total, the distance traveled in the atmosphere by this bolide was of about 760 km.
