What caused explosions to be heard all over northwest New Jersey on Sunday night?

The explosions were heard around Warren County and across the river in Northhampton County in Pennsylvania along the Delaware River near the Water Gap around 7:30 p.m.

According to the Upper Mount Bethel Township Facebook page, they were "so strong they shook houses throughout the township and were observed as far away as Allamuchy, NJ."

Portland Pennsylvania Mayor Lance Prator told New Jersey 101.5 the three explosions were "pretty loud but no one really seems to know where they are."

An earlier Facebook post by Prator's municipality had said that according to "reports" the explosion was the result of three controlled explosions at a gun range in Upper Mount Bethel, but the name of the gun range was not disclosed.

Unexplained booms shook New Jersey over 40 years ago

About 40 years ago, something so violent shook the Jersey Shore that the order was given to evacuate the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in Lacey.

The date was Dec. 2, 1977, and to this day and one federal investigation later, no one is absolutely certain what happened.

"Not Earthquake or Sonic Boom: Rumblings, Tremors Unexplained," was the main headline on the front page of the Asbury Park Press the next morning.

Initially, the supersonic Concorde was thought to be the culprit. A little more than a week earlier, the British-French airliner - which could travel twice as fast as the speed of sound - had started transatlantic service into John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Humans can use echolocation just like bats says study

One of the more interesting Marvel superheroes is Daredevil, a character who is blinded as a child, but who is able to sense the world around him because his other senses - most notably his hearing - improve to compensate for his disability.

As it turns out, this super power is more real than you might think. According to a new study from Durham University, there are humans who really can use echolocation, just like a bat, in order to see objects in their path based on sound waves that bounce off them.

While this is a power that, theoretically, many people can develop, at present, most of us don't really have a reason to try. After all, those of us who can see will naturally rely on our eyes rather than attempting to learn echolocation. For some blind people, though, this skill is a fabulous help in everyday life, and it now has some scientific backing which suggests it works.
