Fire burns 3 buildings at Flight 93 National Memorial - flag that flew over White House on 9/11 destroyed

Image
© National Park FoundationThe fire began about 3 p.m. and grew to include both the Flight 93 park office and park headquarters, according to a Somerset County emergency dispatcher.
Fire burned through an area of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Somerset County, on Friday, destroying three administrative buildings that housed a portion of the memorial's prized artifacts.

The collection, which includes the American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and that was presented to the park just last month, was kept in fireproof safes, according to National Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst. The collection's condition, however, cannot be assessed until investigators are able to enter the memorial site sometime this morning, he said.

The affected buildings served as the park's headquarters and included the superintendent's office on Park Headquarters Road, Mr. Litterst said. A fourth building was damaged but saved, local fire officials said.

Local fire officials will hand off investigation of the fire to a team of National Park Service investigators today, Mr. Litterst said. No estimate has been made yet of the buildings' replacement and repair cost.

A Congressional gold medal awarded to the memorial was kept offsite and was not damaged, according to Mr. Litterst. Neither were the portions of the park that visitors see, which are approximately 2 miles from the administrative buildings that were destroyed.

"The sacred ground, the wall of names, the construction of the visitors center, the educational center have not been affected in any manner," said Gordon Felt, president of Families of Flight 93 and brother of Edward Felt, who died on-board the flight. "[Memorial superintendent] Jeff Reinbold has assured me the memorial will be open first thing in the morning to accept visitors, and the experience that guests have who come to pay their respects won't be changed at all."

CIA 'tortured al-Qaeda suspects close to the point of death by drowning them in water-filled baths'

Comment: Most people think that governments that order the brutal torture of generally innocent people are dictatorial regimes where genuine freedom is limited or non-existent, including genuine freedom of speech.

Most people are generally right in thinking so.

Their problem is in accurately identifying the governments that engage in such inhuman practices. Then again, given that such regimes have total control over information and freedom of speech, it's not surprising. 'God bless America' indeed.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was kidnapped and framed as a 9/11 plotter and tortured and drugged to force a confession from him and to ensure he could not expose the truth
The CIA brought top al-Qaeda suspects close "to the point of death" by drowning them in water-filled baths during interrogation sessions in the years that followed the September 11 attacks, a security source has told The Telegraph.

The description of the torture meted out to at least two leading al-Qaeda suspects, including the alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, far exceeds the conventional understanding of waterboarding, or "simulated drowning" so far admitted by the CIA.

"They weren't just pouring water over their heads or over a cloth," said the source who has first-hand knowledge of the period. "They were holding them under water until the point of death, with a doctor present to make sure they did not go too far. This was real torture."

The account of extreme CIA interrogation comes as the US Senate prepares to publish a declassified version of its so-called Torture Report - a 3,600-page report document based on a review of several million classified CIA documents.

Publication of the report is currently being held up by a dispute over how much of the 480-page public summary should remain classified, but it is expected to be published within weeks.

Southeast U.S. on alert for Tropical Storm Cristobal

Image
Tropical Storm Cristobal is expected to take shape later this weekend, then impact the Atlantic beaches and potentially other parts of the southeastern United States next week.

All interests across the southeastern U.S., the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands should be keeping a close eye on the area of disturbed weather in the southwestern Atlantic.

The development of a tropical depression or storm has failed to occur yet due to the obstacles of dusty air, disruptive wind shear and, more recently, interaction with the Caribbean Islands.

As conditions become more conducive, the disturbed area should organize into Tropical Storm Cristobal later in the weekend.

Regardless of when Cristobal takes shape, torrential downpours, gusty squalls and rough surf will continue to spread from Hispaniola and Puerto Rico to the Turks and Caicos and southern and central Bahamas this weekend. Some drenching showers and thunderstorms will even reach eastern Cuba.

William Cooper predicted 9/11 less than 11 weeks before attacks happened - June 28, 2001

9/11 truth
"Whatever they're going to blame on Usama bin Laden - don't you believe it...They will soon do something outlandish to gain the support of the Sheeple."

This is one of Cooper's recordings of his radio talk show 'Hour of the Time' from 06/28/01. It is less than 11 weeks before 9/11 attacks really happened.

Most of you who have been following the 'official' government cover-up of 9/11 are well aware of Mr. Cooper's contributions to the truth movement. Those of you less familiar with his work might want to dig a little deeper. Cooper not only warned of a coming planned attack on US soil, he went so far as to name the scapegoat - Bin Laden.

Many believe that Cooper was killed (11/5/2001) because of the things he says here: disclosing highly sensitive information & particularly forewarning listeners to disregard any connection to Osama Bin Laden should a future attack on US soil occur.

Get Osama! Now! Or else...

Image
American commandos likely to descend on Pakistan's tribal areas may not be too keen on acquiring the supreme fashion accessory of 2001 in the region, the Osama bin Laden T-shirt, boasting such inscriptions as "World Hero" and "The Great Mujahid of Jihad". They're selling briskly in Peshawar's Saddar bazaar for less than US$2 a pop.

The US special forces guys could also take back home a few examples of Osama rappin', available on cassette tapes. They could collect Osama mug shots with lovely psychedelic overtones, and even an Osama video - where the No 1 on the FBI's most wanted list on charges of international terrorism preaches from a mosque and talks to his faithful jihadis in the field. Osama says, "You gotta leave all these places run by 'allies of Jews and Christians' and come to me to do the jihad." He calls for "blood, blood and destruction, destruction" - referring to an array of Muslim victims from Palestine to Chechnya, from Lebanon to Kashmir.

Osama bin Laden - also the No 1 target of the CIA's counter-terrorism center - is now a superstar playing the bad guy in some sort of planetary Hollywood fiction. Yet inside Afghanistan today, where the Saudi Arabian lives in exile, Osama is a minor character. He is ill and always in hiding - usually "somewhere near Kabul". Once in a while he travels incognito to Peshawar. His organization, the Al Qa'Ida, is split, and in tatters. The Taliban owe him a lot for his past deeds towards the movement and in putting them in power in Afghanistan - contributing with a stack of his own personal fortune of millions of dollars. But no longer an asset, he has become a liability.

Comment: Well, well, well. It was common knowledge in Pakistan two weeks before 9/11 that the US government was about to intervene in the region, and under the pretext of 'getting OBL'. We bet that once Musharraf saw those towers go down, he realized he'd in all probability lose power (and maybe his life) if he didn't cooperate with the NeoCons in turning the region in to a complete train-wreck.

Former Bush counterterrorism czar admits that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld all committed 'war crimes', but hedges by questioning if it would be 'productive'

Richard Clarke
Richard Clarke
President George W. Bush's former top counterterrorism official said this week that he is convinced that Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld all committed war crimes during the Iraq war.

In an interview that will air in full next week, Democracy Now's Amy Goodman asked former National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard Clarke if "President Bush should be brought up on war crimes [charges], and Vice President Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, for the attack on Iraq."

"I think things that they authorized probably fall within the area of war crimes," Clarke agreed. "Whether that would be productive or not, I think, is a discussion we could all have."

More police officers have died from 9/11-related illnesses than on the scene at Ground Zero

More police officers have now died as a result of illnesses blamed on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks than the number of cops killed during the actual event as the tragedy unfolded 12-and-a-half years ago.

On Tuesday this week, 20 new names were added to the New York State Police Officers' Memorial in Albany, NY, including 13 individuals who died in recent years due to 9/11-related illnesses. The Associated Press reported that authorities attribute those 13 deaths to cancers caused by rescue and recovery efforts in Lower Manhattan after the World Trade Center collapsed more than a decade ago.

All told, the memorial in the New York state capital now contains the names of 71 officers who died due to 9/11-related illnesses. The actual terrorist attack itself claimed the lives of 60 cops, and nearly 3,000 civilians.

"I live near the World Trade Center. I inhaled the toxic smoke that permeated every square inch of lower Manhattan," New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said at Tuesday's ceremony, the AP reported. "I know how nobly and heroically the NYPD carried out their duties on that tragic September day and the terrible days that followed."

Best of the Web: 9/11 WTC Attacks Disinfo: "Terrorist body found in plane cockpit wreckage"

In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, "law enforcement sources" apparently told Fox news that a body, possibly one of the "terrorists", had been found in the "cockpit ruins" of one of the planes. The same "sources" also said that a body of a flight attendant had been recovered from the wreckage at the WTC with her hands tied behind her back with wire.

These claims were quickly dismissed when it became apparent that no complete bodies were recovered from the passengers or crew of either plane that hit the Twin Towers. Indeed, given the fact that both planes exploded inside the twin towers and then both towers completely collapsed into dust and rubble, it seems highly unlikely that a complete or partial cockpit with a recognizable body inside could have been found. This raises the question of which "law enforcement sources" were spreading this kind of information, that can only have been entirely fabricated, and why.

The answer seems clear; as soon as the 9/11 attacks occurred (or indeed beforehand) a narrative about "hijackers" had already been prepared and disseminated to the mainstream media.

What's in a name: Do baby names impact life course?

babies
© unknown
When parents spend hours poring over baby name books they may imagine that their choice will have a major impact on their child's life. But do names make a difference? Two recent books put this idea under the microscope.

Choosing a name for a child is complicated. Not only should it sound right with the family name but future nicknames - good and bad - need to be taken into consideration. A name might honour a favourite grandparent, but it will also have a forgotten meaning to be unearthed in books, and dubious modern associations to be checked on Google.

Dalton Conley and his wife Ellen were halfway through this pleasant but painstaking process when their baby girl was born, two months premature.

"We had narrowed down the selections to a bunch of E- names, but we couldn't ultimately decide," says Conley, who lives in New York. "Then we came up with the idea of, 'Let's just constrain the first degree of freedom. Let's just give her the first letter and then she can decide when she's old enough what it stands for.'"
