SOTT Focus: MindMatters: Self-Help Without The Shallowness: The Hidden Depths of Stephen R. Covey's 7 Habits

stephen covey
© SOTT
It's the book you've heard about for years, but probably never read - especially if you have an aversion to shallow self-help books promising success, influence, power and money. But Stephen R. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is no shallow self-help book. It's actually a book about virtue - the development of character, and the timeless principles governing true success in life for as long as there has been history.

Today on MindMatters we discuss some of the overall themes of the book, Covey's unique but universal worldview, and some of the great stories he shares to really make his points hit home.

SOTT Focus: Video Analysis of Last Month's Missile Attack on Saudi Oil Refineries: False-Flag?

Comment: The following analysis of the video and photographic evidence of missiles hitting the Saudi Aramco oil facilities last month points to the operation having been a false-flag attack carried out from the north/west, not a 'Yemeni' or 'Iranian' attack carried out from the south/east...

The video shows the trajectories of two missiles. We isolated them here in SHOT1 and SHOT2:

Comment: Considering the mysterious attacks on Saudi and Western oil tankers in May and June this year, and the geopolitical context in which the 'Western Order' is attempting to throttle Iran's economic development - and the threat it poses to the US petrodollar system - by isolating it on the world stage, it's clear that last month's attacks on Saudi oil facilities were the next 'progression' in upholding a united Western front against trading with Iran.

And now, today, missiles have been fired at an Iranian tanker in the Red Sea as it sails north near Jeddah, in what appears to be the next Saudi-Western effort to physically contain Iranian oil shipping within the Persian Gulf...

UPDATE 14 Oct 2019

The researchers at Wars Online have further suggested to us that the attack on an Iranian oil tanker in the Red Sea on Saturday was carried out, or facilitated by, secret Israeli naval facilities in the Dahlak Archipelago, located off the coast of Eritrea in the Red Sea...

SOTT Focus: It's Not All About The Bidens: Why Trump Has Ukraine on The Brain

trump zelensky
© Jonathan Ernst/ReutersUkraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy listens during a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, September 25, 2019.
The impeachment inquiry Democrats launched last month may ultimately hinge on a simple question: Did President Trump try to force a foreign power (or powers) to help him take down a political opponent, Joe Biden?

But the backdrop of their effort is far more complex and convoluted, connected not just to Trump's phone call with the president of Ukraine and related evidence but the three-year war of attrition the Democrats have waged against the president. Their main instrument was the Trump-Russia collusion story that roiled the capital until Special Counsel Robert Mueller pronounced it unfounded. Now they have moved on to one or more "whistleblower" complaints from within the intelligence community.

Given all the focus on nefarious Russia, you could be forgiven for missing the fact that Ukraine was always at the center of the Trump-Russia affair.

Comment: It is very historically and symbolically fitting that Ukraine is the central subject matter in the undoing of the 'American empire'.

That US-fomented coup in Kiev in early 2014, followed by 'the gloves coming off' in Putin's Russia, has proven to be a decisive and - assuming things remain on their current track - fatal blow to the empire.

It's not just that US efforts to 'take Ukraine from Russia' failed due to imperial hubris and overreach; those efforts rebounded on the US and their allies in manifold ways.

The sheer madness displayed by Western elites over this issue also irrupted in the social sphere with the sudden 'push' for all manner of 'social engineering' in schools, the workplace, online... everywhere!

It was as if, having had their veneer of invincibility exposed by Putin, whose weapon was simply truth and objective-reality-on-the-ground, the 'reality-creators' responded by 'activating' all available 'subjectivity programs' (lies), resulting in a global tsunami of unmitigated bullshit.

SOTT Focus: What Would it Take For The UK to Apologize For Centuries of Atrocities Carried Out Under The British Empire?

Any objective historian would concede that the British government has a centuries-long list of atrocities that it must one day apologize for. To this day, the British Empire has struggled with the notion of righting past wrongs.

The British government made a rare move last week: it expressed regret for the killing of Maori in New Zealand in 1769. When Captain James Cook "discovered" New Zealand, it wasn't long before local Maori people were being attacked and killed by Cook and his band of merry men.

To be fair, the government only took this step because it wanted to push ahead with a government-funded commemoration of Cook's initial landing, including replicating his sailing ship with an accompanying flotilla. In fact, New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters (who has Maori ancestry, mind you), suggested that Maori had their own share of the blame.

Comment: With today's ever expanding 'woke' culture, it wouldn't be a surprise if the UK actually did apologize for some of the country's atrocities. That said, it would be completely meaningless unless UK leaders actually learn from the past and implement actual changes. That country has been at war CONTINUOUSLY since 1914!

Given the history of empires, we all know that is unlikely. This is all the more so under the stupefying effect of virtue-signalling 'wokeness', which at this time holds greater threat than the "rising right-wing". In fact, generally, it is the "right-wing" which is anti-war these days...

SOTT Focus: The Top 10 Arguments Against Climate Hysteria

Climate demonstration
Does the current wave of climate change hysteria as represented by Greta Thunberg make you feel a bit uneasy? Or maybe you have to deal with friends, colleagues or relatives who are confused about all this? In these situations, it can be useful to take a step back and bring some rationality to this debate. By definition, hysteria is the opposite to level-headed analysis. This is the reason why there is so much irrationality and confusion around the climate change issue - and it's not just about the scientific debate, as we'll see. Because no matter where you stand on the validity of the man-made global warming theory, there's plenty of myths and problems with the Greta-inspired, Fridays For Future-style mania.

As a German, I live in a country that has made climate change a central theme of its policies for decades now. So let this be a cautionary tale for other countries. Keep in mind that even though radical activists and most of the media frame this debate in black and white terms and try to make it a left vs. right issue, this just isn't true. There are a great variety of opinions about climate change both on the left and the right, both within mainstream science and the so-called 'climate-skeptic' community. Once you drop the hysterical mindset, these nuances become very visible. And while they make things much more complicated, taking these nuances into account is the only alternative to the disastrous consequences of political hysteria. So here are my top ten arguments to counter the current climate craze:

1. Problem Or Apocalypse?

Greta End is nigh
Probably the biggest trap this whole climate movement fell into is the idea that "if we don't act now, we are all going to die soon": apocalyptic thinking. This shuts down calm, rational thought. But once you get out of that mindset, the issue simply becomes a problem among many. How many of those protestors and activists are even able to tell you what the consequences of CO2 emissions are - even according to the 'official science' of the IPCC?

Here is what Jochem Marotzke, co-author of the 2013 IPCC report, said in an interview with the German magazine SPIEGEL in 2018:
SPIEGEL: "Are there any thresholds above which irreversible processes begin?"

Marotzke: "We cannot rule this out, but the evidence for such tipping points has so far been rather weak. A warming of 2 degrees could most likely lead to the melting of Greenland's ice sheet, causing sea levels to rise by seven metres in the long term - that would be a highly dramatic change. But even if this were to happen, defrosting would take 3000 years. All other alleged tipping points such as the Gulf Stream drying up or the West Antarctic melting are unlikely in the foreseeable future."
Another lead IPCC scientist, Oxford Professor Myles Allen, has said something similar in a short YouTube message: the world isn't going to end soon, and there are certainly no deadlines by which we 'must act' to avoid some kind of apocalypse.

Mind you, despite some shrill tones in the IPCC's press releases, this is the 'official position' in science and has nothing to do with 'climate skeptics'. It could be summed up like this: "Yes, we do have a problem and we need to figure out a way to deal with it, but there's a lot we don't understand yet, and anyway, it will take many years until that problem manifests, which gives us enough time to solve it." At the very least, this shows that contrary to popular belief, there is much diversity even within mainstream science about the effects of climate change. This fact alone should make us immune to politicians and activists who want to rush through drastic measures and policies, and ignore the likely unintended consequences, with the argument that if we don't take these measures right now, we are all going to die.

SOTT Focus: The State of Science in The 21st Century

Mann Hypocrisy
I grew up in Australia in the 1950s and '60s. The story we were sold at school was that science was leading the brave new world. Dedicated men and women were pursuing truth in science, free from bias and influence. Scientific discoveries were lauded in the press and we were exhorted to accept these new findings as gospel truth. Science was extolled as a great even a noble career.

As I have grown older and (hopefully) wiser I have discovered that was anything but the truth. Science today has completely lost its way. There is a crisis in all disciplines around reproducibility - other people not being able to reproduce results reported. More and more funding is provided by corporates and foundations linked to corporates and government bodies with a very clear agenda and desire for particular results. Produce results that run against the agenda and you risk having your research terminated, your funding pulled, and your reputation attacked. There are many examples of this happening.

The way for a scientist to progress his/her career is to do research and to publish in prestige journals. In order to do that, they need to attract funding and have their research peer-reviewed. It turns out that to attract funding, avoid being attacked by one's fellow scientists and be accepted for publication, it is necessary to follow the politically-correct path. And this is true in all fields of science, be they medical, psychology, climate, smoking, diet and nutrition etc.

SOTT Focus: MindMatters: Decoding the American Minds: The Deep History of America's Culture Wars

american nations
© SOTT
The United States is a big country, but its population is anything but homogenous. For its entire history the people of its various regions have clashed over everything from politics and economics, to religion and cultural norms. But why? Today on MindMatters we discuss Colin Woodard's book American Nations: A History of the Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America, inspired by the earlier work of David Hackett Fischer. The current cultural landscape of North America traces back to its beginnings: the first settlers of its numerous colonies and their eventual spread west across the continent. From the Tidewater gentry and Puritan Yankees, the Spanish mestizo in the south and French in the north, the Dutch in New York and the Quakers in the Midlands, to the plantation slavers of the Deep South and clannish warriors of Greater Appalachia, the Left Coast and the Far West - the cultural template of each region was set by their respective 'founding fathers', and those trends have continued to the present day.

Tune in for a look at the fascinating, bloody, and often courageous history of North America, with all its twists and turns. This isn't the history your boring high-school teacher taught you!

SOTT Focus: Objective:Health #33 - Society Is Degenerating

O:H header
de·gen·er·ate - to sink into a low intellectual or moral state.

Witnessing the current state of society and comparing it to even a decade ago, one can't help but notice a clear degenerative path, seemingly toward disintegration. Things that would seem deplorable in the past now seem to be becoming more and more acceptable, even normal.

Aborted fetuses sold off organ by organ like car parts, sick and twisted sexual fetishes being collectively celebrated, cannibalism suggested as a solution to climate change, girls as young a eleven legally allowed to go topless in Colorado - it seems there's no end to this collective slide into perversion and depravity.

Join us for this episode of Objective:Health, where we talk about degeneracy - humanity's increasingly low intellectual and moral state.

SOTT Focus: Former Israeli Intel Official Claims Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell Worked for Israel

Maxwell Epstein Mossad

Since the apparent death by suicide of Jeffrey Epstein in a Manhattan prison, much has come to light about his depraved activities and methods used to sexually abuse underage girls and entrap the rich and powerful for the purposes of blackmail. Epstein's ties to intelligence, described in-depth in a recent MintPress investigative series, have continued to receive minimal mainstream media coverage, which has essentially moved on from the Epstein scandal despite the fact that his many co-conspirators remain on the loose.

For those who have examined Epstein's ties to intelligence, there are clear links to both U.S. intelligence and Israeli intelligence, leaving it somewhat open to debate as to which country's intelligence apparatus was closest to Epstein and most involved in his blackmail/sex-trafficking activities.

In a recent interview with Zev Shalev, former CBS News executive producer and award-winning investigative journalist for independent outlet Narativ, former senior executive for Israel's Directorate of Military Intelligence, Ari Ben-Menashe, claimed not only to have met Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, back in the 1980s, but that both Epstein and Maxwell were already working with Israeli intelligence during that time period - specifically, running a sexual blackmail enterprise as an Israeli intelligence operation for the purpose of entrapping powerful individuals and politicians in the United States and abroad.

SOTT Focus: SOTT Earth Changes Summary - September 2019: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

sott ecs september 2019
© Sott.net
September 2019 will be remembered as the month when 16-year-old prophet Greta Thunberg spoke at the UN to warn the world of global catastrophe if people didn't change their ways. At least, that's how the media apparently wanted people to remember September.

Away from that circus, increasing weather extremes and seismic upheaval continues apace.

Last month, fatal flash-flooding in Morocco and Algeria killed 18 people; Hurricane Dorian absolutely wrecked the Bahamas; severe flooding across southeast Asia and India killed hundreds; Spain was hit with its worst storm system in at least 140 years; destructive earthquakes hit Kashmir and Indonesia; dozens of meteor fireball events lit up the night sky; and early snowfall and cold temperature records were broken across the northern hemisphere.

So, should we panic? Greta certainly thinks so. She wishes people would do something about the unfolding climate chaos, but she doesn't understand that nothing can be done to stop it because climate is neither controlled nor mitigated by human CO2 emissions.

A 'tipping-point' is likely upon us - she's right about that - but if there's a shift, it'll be into ice age conditions. While people have been misled into paying 'green' taxes, governments have been deluded into divesting of secure fuel sources right when they ought to have been manically hoarding it...
