Wales: Mystery of the Llanidloes 'hum' - have you suffered?

A bizarre humming noise is being reported in parts of Montgomeryshire.

Peter Danks, of Llwyn Y Gog, Staylittle, has claimed the intermittent hum is driving him round the bend, and he's no idea where it's coming from.

"It sounds like the idling of a diesel engine, and it comes and goes with seemingly no pattern," said Mr Danks, who has lived in the area for more than 10 years.

"It began around three months ago," he said: "I woke up in the middle of the night and felt sick, so I went to the doctors and they said there is nothing wrong with my ears. It can start any time, and then stops randomly before starting again.

Comment:
"There are definitely some cases where there is an environmental source but more often it's inside the human being. I believe that psychology and relaxation is the way forward in these cases."
It is far easier to blame these occurrences on the people rather than actually acknowledging that it is something that these people are hearing.

The fact that they have sensitive hearing, as has also been postulated, does nothing to help the people, nor does it pinpoint just what is being heard.

Either way, these people are hearing something, just what it is has not come to light yet. However, it is quite possible that we will all find out soon enough.

Ireland: 'Panthers', 'leopards' and 'pumas' sighted in fields throughout Ulster

There has been an increase in big cat sightings in Ulster's countrysides recently - with 44 alleged sightings investigated in the last five years.

Police have probed claims from members of the public that panthers, leopards and in one case even a lion have been spotted.

Details of sightings released by the PSNI follow reports two big cats are on the loose in Co Down.

Last week a group of walkers reported seeing two large, wild cat-type animals in the area of the Bloody Bridge in Newcastle.

Both animals were described as being about the size of a Labrador but with feline characteristics and black shiny coats.

Witness Statement: It was a clear night and a full moon, I think. I looked up and saw an bright orange effervescent light, there was a phosphorus like quality to it, it was in the south. First I thought it was a craft on fire, or a big firework about to explode but was neither. The energy to give it so much brightness must be quite significant I think, and I rule out chinese lanterns, this was more powerful. Its shape shifted somewhat, and there was an occasional red tinge inside. Eventually after modulating in size it faded to black- and there seemed to be a black maybe triangular shape behind it which then also disappeared. Never seen anything like it before, was pleasant to observe.

Witness Statement: I was sittting in my living area when I noticed an orange glow traveling in an easterly direction across the night sky. It was a really bright orange color and at first it looked as if it was a plane on fire. I went outside to get a closer look and observed the object travel across the skyline of Cardiff and turn upwards towards the stars. It seemed to slow down and was definitely not a plane or helicopter. It was strange and when trying to look at it as close as possible it was very difficult to focus on. My eyes felt very strange after looking at it. If anyone was looking over the skyline at this time it is impossible that they would not of seen it. If you have seen the thing we have described then please post to let us know as we are perplexed and wondering what it was!!!

Witness Statement: I have been an amateur astronomer since I was a boy and I am very used to looking at the sky and understanding the nature of 'visible to naked eye' objects within it.

At approx 2.00am in the early hours of May 30th 2009, I was in Standish, Gloucestershire, observing the sky for satellites and meteors. It was a perfectly clear night with no clouds and a light breeze. The quarter moon had set and was below the western horizon. The milky way could be seen fairly brightly, north to south.

Britain's oldest ghost appears to have been caught on camera at the country's most ancient inhabited site.

The 'spook' was snapped in a prehistoric cave at Kent's Cavern in Torquay, Devon, looming from a wall and surrounded by an eerie mist.

In the image, taken by a tourist, the ghostly face of the caveman seems to hover in mid air staring in to the distance.

For almost 200 years archaeologists have been digging up the prehistoric caves hoping to unearth evidence of our ancestors.

They've found lots of bones of all sorts of animals - as well as a human jawbone dated at around 40,000 years old which was when Neanderthal Man became extinct.

Researcher Raúl Nuñez from IIEE-Chile sends us this image from Las Ultimas Noticias, which asks: "What the devil is in this photo?" The text goes on to say: Rosa Araya says that the only thing she did was take a photo of her nephews in the backyard of her house in Montegrande to finish a roll of film. Upon developing the roll, she became aware of two things. She had only focused on the boys' heads and that some strange luminous dots forming a sort of saucer appeared over the skies of Valle de Elqui. Ufologist Patricio Diaz, when consulted by the El Dia newspaper, dismissed the possibility that the image was a hoax.

Ukraine: UFO lands in village, multiple witnesses

Reports of a UFO landing in a small rural village are filtering out from the Ukraine. Residents of the village of Brailov are insisting that they were woken up to an intensely bright white light in the middle of the night, earlier this month.

The residents, mostly farmers, are also claiming that electrical surges and a strange feeling of electrical currents passing through their bodies accompanied the light.

In the morning after the UFO event three unusual imprints consisting of 'wheels with wheels' arranged in triangular formation were seen on the ground of one of the resident's yards.

Description: During a storm on June 18 I thought that the clouds looked cool so I decided to take a few pictures of them using my large versa phone. This is what I got when taking the pictures. It was there and in a blink of an eye it was gone. I don't have a clue what it was so that is why I am reporting this to your site. Maybe it isn't the only one of it's kind when it comes to unexplained sittings.

Description: Ali Nicolls and William Puckett set up two cameras to video the sky on June 14, 2009. The cameras were set in an easterly direction and were angled about 20 to 30 degrees above the horizon. Two infrared cameras were set up and footage was recorded on DVD for each camera. The camera (containing above footage) was an IGEN NV 20/20 night viewer scope with video output.

The camera is sensitive in the visual and near infrared. The spectral sensitivity ranges from about 400 microns to 1,000 microns. Visible light is approximately between 400 and 700 microns. The camera was set to capture footage at 15 frames/second (as opposed to the normal 30 frames/second) so that more ambient light could be captured. The other camera was a FLIR thermographics B2 infrared camera with video output. This camera has a spectral sensitivity in the "far" infrared from about 6,500 to 13,000 microns. The image above did not show up on the thermographics camera indicating that it likely was not an airplane or helicopter (no thermal signature). The above image also was not visible to the naked eye at any time. (We were watching the taping live on 2 TV sets each dedicated to one camera.)
