At least eleven people were killed after a large industrial crane toppled over at a shipyard in India. Rescue workers are still trying to save those trapped in the wreckage, according to reports.

A short video shows the heavy-duty yellow crane at the Hindustan Shipyard in Visakhapatnam falling over on its side, creating billows of dust as it came crashing down. The crane was undergoing load testing when it collapsed, local media said, citing a trade union leader.

Several bodies have already been pulled from the rubble and ambulances are on standby to rush survivors to the hospital. Officials are still trying to determine how many people were at the worksite when the accident occurred, and they have reportedly warned that the number of casualties could increase. First responders at the scene are still trying to free trapped workers.

At least 18 police officers were reportedly injured in Berlin on Saturday as they tried to break up a large gathering of people demonstrating against coronavirus restrictions, including the face mask requirement.

Three of the officers were being treated in hospital, Berlin police said on Twitter. It had deployed 1,100 officers to monitor the rally and disperse the crowd.

As German officials warn of soaring infection numbers, the protesters remain defiant. "The virus of freedom has reached Berlin," said one of the organizers, Michael Ballweg.

Others chanted: "We are the second wave," as they moved through the German capital.

In fact, they are REAL anti-fascists.

Explosive court documents that make Epstein allegations against Clinton, Dershowitz, Prince Andrew leave Trump unscathed

donald trump
Recently unsealed court documents from a Jeffrey Epstein accuser make allegations against former President Bill Clinton, attorney Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew but leave President Donald Trump largely unscathed.

The unsealed documents are from Virginia Giuffre's testimony detailing alleged abuses by Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of convicted sex offender and accused sex trafficker Epstein.

Giuffre told lawyers in 2011 that Clinton visited Epstein's private Caribbean island where "orgies were a constant thing that took place" and also flew on Epstein's private plane, according to the New York Post.

"I remember asking Jeffrey what's Bill Clinton doing here kind of thing, and he laughed it off and said well he owes me a favor," she said.

"He never told me what favors they were. I never knew. I didn't know if he was serious. It was just a joke."

Domestic violence more than doubled under lockdowns

domestic abuse

The unintended consequences of the COVID-19 lockdowns have been severe: mass unemployment, increased drug overdoses and suicides, and widespread social unrest are but a few of them.

On Monday, the National Bureau of Economic Research released a paper detailing another: increased domestic violence.

Analyzing government-mandated lockdowns in India, researchers Saravana Ravindran and Manisha Shah found evidence of a 131 percent increase in complaints of domestic violence in May 2020 in "red zone districts," or districts that experienced the strictest lockdown measures, relative to districts that had less strict measures ("green zones").

The researchers, who used a difference-in-differences empirical strategy, found the increase in domestic violence complaints was consistent with a surge in Google search activity for terms related to domestic violence over the same period.

The authors' findings "contribute to a growing literature on the impacts of lockdowns and stay-at-home policies on violence against women during the COVID-19 pandemic."

The attorney for the man who shot armed protester Garrett Foster in Austin on the night of July 25 has been identified as an active-duty sergeant in the United States Army, reports the Austin American-Statesman. He is identified as Army Sgt. Daniel Perry. The AAS reports Perry was driving for a ride-hailing company on the night of the unpermitted protest. Foster was carrying an AK-47 rifle on the night of the protest.

PJ Media was the first to report that the shooter is a military member and that he was driving in the course of earning extra money in the area of the unpermitted protest that night. We were also first to report the probability that the shooting may have happened in self-defense in accordance with Texas castle doctrine law.

Federal court overturns death sentence for Boston Marathon bomber

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
A federal appeals court on Friday overturned the death sentence for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The U.S. 1st Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston ordered a lower court to hold a new trial on the issue of what penalty Tsarnaev should receive. It said the trial court did not hold proper juror inquiries about the impact of pretrial publicity.

The appeals court upheld much of his conviction for the 2013 attack, which killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.

Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, radical Islamist Jihadists, detonated two homemade bombs near the finish line of the historic race, causing that the court said was "battlefield-like carnage." They also killed local campus police officer Sean Collier later.

Tamerlan was killed during a shootout with police several days after the bombing.

The First Circuit Court said the trial judge had to ascertain not just the degree but the "kind" of exposure that prospective jurors had to publicity about the case.

"But as to 9 of the 12 seated jurors, the judge fell short on this front," the court said.

Seattle City Council move to abolish police department with new bill

Seattle lawmakers want to abolish the city's police force and replace it with a "community-led" safety prevention program, according to proposed legislation released Friday.

Arguing that the Seattle Police Department "perpetuates racism and violence" and upholds "white supremacy culture," the Seattle City Council moved to redirect cash to a non-profit, civilian-led "Department of Community Safety & Violence Prevention" — and offered a "blueprint" on how to defund the police, according to the resolution.

Comment: That this kind of ideological drivel is coming from the City Council and not some fringe group of lowlife radicals should be concerning.

Under the bill, cops would be replaced by "community-led activities" and organizations focused on "housing, food security, and other basic needs" along with "culturally-relevant expertise rooted in community connections," according to documents posted by Christopher Rufo, Director of Discovery Institute's Center on Wealth & Poverty.

To gain police department funding, groups must show they are "well-versed in de-escalation skills" along with "trauma-informed, gender-affirming, anti-racist praxis" and are "committed to hiring staff from the communities they serve," according to the proposal.

Race quotas will make the New York Times a truly second-rate paper

New York Times header
© Business Insider/KJN
As bad as the New York Times can be right now, that will be nothing compared to how truly miserable it can become if it institutes the asinine race quotas and other demands that the paper's worker union is demanding.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the News Guild of New York, representing the New York Times editorial staff, laid out several race-based items for the paper's leadership to start working on.

Among them were for the company's workforce demographics to reflect that of New York City (race quotas); for each stage of the hiring process for a new position to have at least 50% of the candidates be minorities (race quotas); and for the establishment of "mentorship programs" that create a track for minorities to move from junior positions to more senior ones (race quotas).

Comment: Why stop at race? If demographics should be representative, a certain proportion of candidates should be homeless, left-handed, overweight, underweight, tall, short. The possibilities are endless. To limit oneself to race is simply a lack of imagination and ambition.

Oh, and the union demands that all articles be given "sensitivity reads," the purpose of which would be to censor and edit content that offends or has the potential to offend minorities.

There would be nothing wrong with hiring more black journalists, but it's hard enough to find one good journalist, let alone 18 who meet additional exclusionary criteria. Black people only account for about 12% of graduates with a journalism degree each year. Just as with every other race, only a very few will go on to get a job at a newspaper, and even fewer will get a job at a major metropolitan newspaper.

Mystery seeds being received across the US from China - What is the purpose of it?

seeds
"Mysterious Seeds" are being unexpectedly delivered by mail US/UK. Media has rushed to blame China for bioterrorism, warning DON'T PLANT! But why would China put themselves on every return label? There is more to this story, and it is part of an agenda to take total control of food -- including seeds -- and prevent you from saving/selling any "unauthorized seeds." Christian shares some high octane (but well-founded) speculation around this developing story as the #FoodWars continue.

Sources

Comment: Apparently residents in states all across the US have received packages of seeds, as officials from states including Louisiana, Virginia, Kansas, Ohio, Washington, Kentucky, and Wyoming have sent out alerts advising people to not plant the seeds. Seed packages have also appeared in parts of Utah, Arizona, and the UK. Photos of the packages showed they were delivered through China Post, a Chinese shipping company, and often consist of Chinese writing and labels describing the contents as necklaces or rings.
