A new poll finds that most U.S. likely voters believe American society and culture is in decline โ€” including large majorities of self-identified Democrats, Republicans and independents.

The survey by the Trafalgar Group revealed that 76.8% of respondents from all political affiliations said that "American society and culture is in a state of decay," compared to only 9.8% who said "a state of progress." The remaining 13.4% said they were unsure.

Voters on both sides of the aisle are unhappy with the current state of hot-button social and culture war issues for different reasons, said pollster Robert Cahaly, who founded Trafalgar Group in 2016.

'Expert' pilots make increased mistakes after flying breaks due to Covid

Qantas airline
The memo noted that air and ground crews have both been affected by disrupted flying schedules.
Reduced flights, staffing stand downs and global disruptions may have affected the skill level of pilots returning to work, according to internal communication from Qantas.

Internal memos obtained by nine newspapers show airline bosses noting a reduction in "cognitive capacity" and "recency" (the skills and regulation compliance required to fly) among expert pilots.

The memo also noted incidents in which pilots have misidentified "altitude as airspeed," instances of planes "commencing takeoff with (the) park brake set," and the loss of "situational awareness".

"Combined with reduced flying across the network, we recognise a flow on effect for flight crew's focus and familiarity with the operation," they said.

"Routine items that used to be completed with a minimum of effort now occupy more time and divert attention away from flying the aircraft."

Best of the Web: Detained tennis star Novak Djokovic breaks silence over Australia visa row

Novak Djokovic has broken his silence over his ongoing Australian visa row to thank his fans for their support.

The world number one was detained on Thursday after he was denied a visa to enter the country for this month's Australian Open.

He remains detained in Melbourne as he appeals against the decision and while holed up at an immigration facility in the city took to social media for the first time since.

"Thank you to people around the world for your continuous support," he wrote on Instagram. "I can feel it and it is greatly appreciated."

Djokovic has been detained since Thursday morning after his visa was cancelled following scrutiny of the medical exemption over the Covid vaccine he had secured to enter the country.

Second Australian Open tennis player detained by Australian Border Force for having vaccine exemption

Renata Voracova
© APRenata Voracova of the Czech Republic returns a shot.
Veteran Czech Republic tennis player Renata Voracova has been detained by Australian Border Force officials and had her visa revoked just days before the Australian Open.

It is understood she had entered Australia with a vaccine exemption on the basis she had been infected with COVID-19 in the last six months, the same reason used by men's world No.1 Novak Djokovic, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

It's believed the 38-year-old is being held at the same Melbourne immigration detention hotel as Djokovic, who is contesting his revoked visa in a court hearing set for Monday morning.

Comment: Voracova has actually been in Australia since December and even played in a pre-Open warm-up tournament!

It's likely that the players with exemptions only went to Australia because it was made clear to them that they could play in the Australian Open without being vaxxed. The Australian government apparently reneged on that deal essentially deceiving them. They're currently using Djokovic's high-profile status to send a message to the unvaxxed: 'we will get you'.

It remains to be seen whether the government will back down and let him in to play, and even if they do, it has stimulated yet another polarizing vaxxed-vs-unvaxxed 'debate'. Divide and conquer...

Juror revelations may jeopardize Ghislaine Maxwell verdict

Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers have been allowed to apply for a retrial, after reports emerged that two jurors may have swayed others to convict her for sex trafficking by revealing their own childhood sexual abuse histories.

On Wednesday, New York judge Alison Nathan gave the defense until January 19 to submit a legal motion to vacate the conviction. Maxwell's lawyers had told the court that there were "incontrovertible grounds for a new trial" after one juror - identified as "Scotty David" - told various media outlets that he'd revealed his experience of abuse during jury deliberations.

Prosecutors also asked the judge to conduct a hearing into Scotty David's interviews next month. The 35-year-old Manhattan resident told Reuters on Tuesday that he brought up his history after some jurors were skeptical about the accounts of two of Maxwell's accusers.

Comment: See the Daily Mail's full interview with Scotty David below. He doesn't discuss how his sexual abuse may have influenced the trial, but he does go into more detail about the material that was shown to the jury.

He describes a photograph found in Epstein's apartment which shows a 6-year-old Celina Dubin (daughter of his ex-girlfriend Eva Andersson Dubin and hedge-fund manager Glenn Dubin) bending over and removing her underwear. Reportedly, Epstein was Celina's godfather and in later years he said that he wanted to marry her. Scott David said that there were other photographs of young girls littered around the house.

National Geographic author falsely claims that Kyle Rittenhouse killed 'two Black men' in new book

Kara Cooney rittenhouse
A National Geographic author falsely claimed in her new book that Kyle Rittenhouse killed "two Black men." In her book The Good Kings, Egyptologist Kara Cooney wrote, "...consider Kyle Rittenhouse, who used his semiautomatic weapon to kill two Black men in Kenosha, Wisconsin while waging a glorious war on behalf of his inherited White power."

Rittenhouse shot three white men on the night of August 25, 2020, in Kenosha, Wisc., killing two. A jury concluded that he shot them in self-defense. Hours of video evidence was shown that backed his claim, as well as eye-witnesses who testified that the men shot had threatened and advanced on the teen.

The glaring error from Cooney's book was brought to the attention of Twitter by Kara McKinney, of OAN's Tipping Point. She wrote that the text appeared in the last chapter of Cooney's book, and showed that Cooney is "not the brightest bulb and it shows." McKinney found another error in the book as well, when Cooney said that noted Civil Rights activist and organizer Rosa Parks sat in the "White section" of a bus in Montgomery, Ala. But Parks' protest, instead, was to refuse to give up her seat to a white passenger.

Comment: How many layers of edits did this text go through without anyone doing so much as a simple fact check? It's amazing how ideological possession can bias one's perspective so effectively.

Judge rules FDA can't keep vaccine docs secret 'until 2096'

A federal judge said the drug regulator must radically accelerate its release of hundreds of thousands of files on the Pfizer jab.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been ordered to hasten the publication of documents related to Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine by more than one-hundred-fold, after the agency claimed the disclosure would take decades.

In a ruling on Thursday, District Judge Mark Pittman rejected previous arguments from the FDA after it said it might take decades, possibly until 2096, to complete the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. Though the agency said it could only process and publish around 500 pages each month, Pittman said it would have to pick up the pace - instead ordering it to put out 55,000 pages in the same time span.

Comment: You can't approve a vaccine in 108 days and then turn around and say it will take you "decades" to release the information that led to the approval in the first place. Releasing the information to the public should be a faster process than reviewing it. Unless, of course, they didn't read the information in the first place and only rubber-stamped the vaccine approval regardless.

UK's school pupils refusing to wear masks in class, take lateral flow tests, research shows policy provides 'insufficient' benefit & evidence of harm

school mask class
The findings came as pupils are returning to class this week after the Christmas break, with new advice for secondary school and college students in England to wear face coverings in classrooms. However, a number of children are refusing to do so, according to another education union
Schoolchildren are refusing to wear face masks in the classroom, a union official said as the Government's own study does not justify the policy.

Just five per cent of pupils at one school agreed to take a lateral flow test at the start of the term and wear a mask, according to Damien McNulty, a national executive member of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT).

"Sadly, we have had reports in the last 24 hours of at least six secondary schools in the north-west of England where children, in huge numbers, are refusing to take lateral flow tests or to wear masks," Mr McNulty told the BBC.

Comment: Back in July, some children were exposing the unfounded hysteria by using the lateral flow tests on orange juice in order to obtain a positive result and get some time off school.

Comment: It's perhaps revealing that, for the most part, it seems those that are invested in the hysteria - adults - are blinded to all the detrimental effects of mask-wearing, and they're also willing to overlook the complete absence of any evidence of their efficacy.

Note that it was less than 2 months ago that the UK's teaching groups held a restriction-free awards ceremony, whilst at the same time they were enforcing mask wearing on children and, as winter approached, some schools were following government advice that classes be held with windows open 'to allow for reasonable ventilation, without freezing'; unsurprisingly this brazen hypocrisy drew widespread condemnation from parents:
