Best of the Web: California legislature passes bill reducing penalties for oral, anal sex with 'willing children'

California lawmakers passed a bill Monday that would reduce penalties for adults who have oral or anal sex with a willing minor child if the sex offender is within ten years of the age of the victim.

The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).

According to SB 145, the legislation "would exempt from mandatory registration" as a sex offender "a person convicted of certain offenses involving minors if the person is not more than 10 years older than the minor and if that offense is the only one requiring the person to register."

The measure would allow a judge to decide if an adult who engages in oral or anal sex with a child must register as a sex offender if that person is within ten years of the age of the victim.

In January 2019, the San Francisco Examiner reported on the introduction of the bill by State Sen. Scott Wiener (D), who claimed the current law, which states oral and anal sex between an adult within ten years of the age of a willing minor requires the adult to be registered as a sex offender, discriminates against LGBT individuals.

Pure evil: Discover blocks donations to Kyle Rittenhouse defense crowdfunding page

One of the nation's most popular credit card companies, Discover, told Forbes on Thursday their customers are forbidden from donating money to a Christian crowdfunding page set up for the 17-year-old who killed two people in Kenosha, Wisconsin in August.

On Wednesday, Infowars wrote about Facebook blocking links to the GiveSendGo page for Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse, which has gathered over $380,000 in donations so far.

Now, just a day later, the Christian crowdfunding site's page dedicated to raising money for Kyle has been targeted by Discover.

The corporation explained it "terminated that merchant for operating regulation violations," adding, "we regularly review merchants for operating regulations violations; turning off merchants for violations is a typical process for us, but one we don't make public."

Comment: This is what's otherwise known as a lie. YouTube, Patreon, Facebook, Twitter - they all have malleable goalposts when it comes to their rules:

In a statement, Discover basically says the amount of customers donating to the page is so insignificant that they don't care if they lose business while claiming they don't judge those individuals for how they spend their money.

"We appreciate that terminating this merchant acceptance agreement may be an inconvenience to a small number of our customers; Discover makes no judgment about customer's use of their funds; as a payments processor, we ... terminate acceptance only in instances in which they're found to be in violation of our operating regulations," the company explained.

Co-op supermarket and The Spectator cancel each other over 'transphobia' ad row

co-op markets spectator magazine cancel transphobia
When a British supermarket advertised in a conservative magazine, a band of activists took offense and got the ads pulled, but not before the magazine banned the supermarket for life. Welcome to mutually-assured cancellation.

The Spectator is a widely read conservative magazine, and Co-op is Britain's fifth-largest supermarket by market share. When activists with 'Stop Funding Hate' noticed a Co-op advertisement in The Spectator's pages last week, they demanded that the supermarket sever its relationship with the publication, calling the magazine "toxic and inflammatory."

The group's tweet received only limited attention, but one transgender woman managed to get Co-op's attention, accusing the supermarket of funding "transphobia in The Spectator" and claiming that the magazine prints "overwhelmingly hostile" articles about trans people.

Comment: It would be very interesting to know which group gets the bigger bump in revenue.

Trans person arrested multiple times at Portland Antifa riots now faces federal felony charge

A Portland-area trans person was federally charged with felony civil disorder after being arrested three times and released by local authorities at Antifa riots last month.

According to court documents from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon, 25-year-old Joshua "Eva" Martin Warner, of Beaverton, Ore., directed a high-powered, green laser into the eyes of numerous Portland Police officers attempting to disperse a riot on Aug. 8 outside the police union hall.

The lasers, favored by Antifa black bloc in Portland, can cause permanent eye damage. At the riot, Antifa arsonists attacked the Portland Police Association building by shattering windows and setting fire to it. They also used vehicles and lit dumpsters to block traffic and impede police response.

Warner was observed by Oregon State Police troopers allegedly using the laser to blind officers. When Portland Police responded to her, she resisted arrest, prompting them to use force. One officer sustained serious injuries in the course of the arrest.

A black, pen-style laser pointer was confiscated from Warner. She was taken into county custody and charged for unlawful directing of light from a laser pointer, interfering with a peace officer, and disorderly conduct in the second degree. She was quickly released without bail and has an arraignment date in October for those charges.

Following a Federal Bureau of Investigation investigation, 26-year-old Kristopher Michael Donnelly, of Kelso, Wash., was arrested and federally charged with felony civil disorder. The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon accuses him of assaulting a Portland Police officer. When Donnelly was arrested four times in August and booked into the local jail, he was either quickly bailed out or released by the county.

Donnelly was first arrested on Aug. 5, where he was filmed using a hammer to destroy a window of the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct. Donnelly was also spotted by police throwing objects capable of causing injury, refusing to disperse, and blocking traffic.

According to court records, when an officer attempted to arrest him, Donnelly used his elbow to forcefully strike the cop in the face. He continued to resist as several officers assisted in the arrest. Donnelly was eventually taken into custody for felony riot, felony criminal mischief, felony assault of a public safety officer, resisting arrest and other charges. He was held on a $5,000 bail, which was paid.

Three days later, on Aug. 8 Donnelly was arrested again by Portland Police during a declared riot outside the Penumbra Kelly Building, a police facility, for felony riot, interfering with a public safety officer, and second degree disorderly conduct. Donnelly attempted to flee before he was detained. He was ordered released without bail by a judge.

On Aug. 23, for the third time last month, Donnelly was arrested for felony riot, resisting arrest, and interfering with a peace officer. His bail was set at $5,000. Like before, he was quickly bailed out.

Then a week later on Aug. 30, he was arrested a fourth time for disorderly conduct, and interfering with a peace officer. Donnelly was transferred to federal authorities on Sept. 2 for his first appearance in federal court.

Suspect in fatal Portland protest shooting dead after pulling gun on feds during arrest; admitted guilt hours earlier in Vice interview - UPDATE

Michael Reinoehl portland shooter suspect
© APMichael Reinoehl (right) is seen during a protest in front of Mayor Ted Wheeler's residence.
Michael Forest Reinoehl, who appeared to admit to murdering a Trump supporter last weekend in Portland in a Thursday interview with Vice, was shot dead by law enforcement later that evening as they attempted to arrest him in Lacey, Washington, located southwest of Seattle.

According to Lt. Ray Brady of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement was in the area looking for a homicide suspect, and that the 48-year-old Reinoehl was seen exiting an apartment and entering a vehicle, according to the New York Times.

"As they attempted to apprehend him, there was gunfire," said Brady.

According to the Associated Press, Reinoehl pulled a gun during the incident, after a federal task force from the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service located Reinoehl.

Comment: From the video footage of the incident it seems highly unlikely that Reinoehl or his friend were about to be stabbed by Aaron "Jay" Danielson. It seems clear that Reinoehl approached Danielson and his friend (not the other way around) and was specifically looking for Trump supporters to kill or maim.

UPDATE: So Reinoehl fled Oregon, most likely in a futile effort to evade arrest. He apparently was armed with an assault rifle when arrested, and shot at the SUVs nearby. Witnesses say they heard 40 to 50 shots fired. However, law enforcement has not confirmed wither Reinoehl actually fired any shots.

Tucker Carlson spoke with the man who was with Aaron Danielson when he was murdered by Reinoehl. Needless to say, he categorically refutes Reinoehl's claim that he shot Danielson out of self-defense to "protect a friend of color".

The antifa activists riot all night then head back to their tent city to sleep it off.

While the videographer was filming one of the antifa members came out with a slingshot and started firing rocks at him.

At one point a notable anarchist called "Trumpet Man" came strolling out of a tent in sandals.

A new book says looting's fine: It's fun and people get free stuff. It costs $27.57, but why not steal it instead?

In Defense of Looting is one of the most ridiculous books ever committed to print and would be laughable if the paper-thin philosophy behind it weren't perniciously making its way into public life.

For most of human history, we have agreed that nicking other people's stuff is bad. The Bible includes "thou shalt not steal" in the Ten Commandments alongside murder, blasphemy and adultery as things you shouldn't be getting up to. Sharia law takes such a dim view of larceny that in its strictest interpretation lopping off thieves' hands is de rigueur.

Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism also denounce pinching that which is not yours. It is illegal in some shape or form in every country on Earth. I'd wager even John Lennon, despite his crooning to "imagine no possessions," would've been a bit ticked off if you made off with one of his guitars.

Police officer fatally shoots man in southeast Washington, D.C. - UPDATES: Video released showing suspect was armed following protests, outcry

A police officer fatally shot a man in Southeast Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, according to police.

The man was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital, Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a briefing.

Police had responded to the area to follow up on a report of guns in a vehicle, Newsham said. When they approached the vehicle, people inside the vehicle fled on foot, he said.

Police recovered two firearms at the scene. Newsham said it had not yet been determined if the man was armed.

He said officials have yet to confirm the identity of the man who was fatally shot, but that "information suggests it's an adult." A person at the briefing was heard claiming the victim was 17-years-old and unarmed.

D.C. Councilmember Trayon White (D) said the victims' mother told him her son was a "kid" and lives about two blocks away from where the shooting happened, according to NBC 4 Washington.

Asked why the officer fired a gun, Newsham would not say, adding that he would be "speculating" and it would be "improper" to address at that time.

'Burn this motherf**ker down!' WATCH protesters descend on DC police station after officers fatally shoot 18yo suspect
Scores of demonstrators have gathered at a Washington, DC police station to protest the death of another young black man at the hands of officers, reportedly shot after brandishing a firearm during a foot chase.

More than 100 people congregated outside of the DC Metro Police Department's 7th district station on Wednesday night following the police shooting of Deon Kay, 18, who later died of his injuries. Videos that circulated on social media captured the tense atmosphere outside the police station, including a brief scuffle with officers.

In a statement issued in the wake of the shooting, the DC police said that they responded to a call "to investigate a man with a gun," finding two suspects who fled on foot. Officers pursued the two men, after which Kay is said to have "brandished a firearm," and was shot one time in response, ultimately killing him. The second suspect was not apprehended.

Citing a law passed in June which mandates the release of police body cam footage within five days of an officer-involved shooting, protesters have demanded the MPD publish the video immediately.

While the demonstration at the 7th district station remained largely peaceful before disbanding - barring a brief pushing match near the beginning of the event - a small group of activists have traveled to the home of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to continue the action, according to journalist Ford Fischer, who livestreamed from the scene of the protest. Police were already stationed at the mayor's residence by the time protesters arrived.

Fischer also spoke with a local elected official, Paul Trantham, who said the police bodycam footage would be released sometime on Thursday, adding that it showed that the officers involved in Kay's shooting had "acted appropriately."

Video surfaces of 18yo shot dead in DC brandishing handgun moments before his death
Video appearing to show the latest young black police shooting victim, Deon Kay, brandishing a pistol moments prior to his attempted arrest and fatal foot pursuit has surfaced online.

Police shot Deon Kay, 18, during a foot pursuit after responding to a call about a "man with a gun" inside of a car. When confronted by police, Kay ran, and was shot once during a brief foot chase. He later died of his injuries. The incident sparked a fresh wave of Black Lives Matter demonstrations in the US capital.

The video was gleaned from Kay's Instagram account, which was subsequently deactivated. It shows Kay and another person, whose face is covered with a balaclava, pointing guns at the camera while listening to music in a vehicle.

The other suspect was reportedly arrested but not shot after he also fled the scene. Two other people, named as Marcyelle Smith and Deonte Brown, remained in the vehicle and were arrested. Smith was reportedly also found in possession of a handgun.

DC Metropolitan Police are expected to release body cam footage of the fatal foot pursuit on Thursday.

The shooting provoked an immediate response from protesters who surrounded then DC Metro Police Department's 7th district station on Wednesday night. A splinter group of protesters and activists also descended on DC Mayor Muriel Bowser's home.

UPDATE: Bodycam footage has been released:

The teen, Deon Kay, is shown holding a handgun:
Two of the four suspects in the car flee on foot, and the officer gives chase. As he begins to chase the lead suspect, he turns back to his right and sees Kay running with a handgun and shoots the teen in the chest. The incident takes about six seconds from the time the officer shuts his door and begins moving toward the suspects' vehicle.

The officer was identified as Alexander Alvarez. Newsham said police quickly released the video, four days sooner than required by law, to clear up "misinformation" about the shooting. "Misinformation can lead to a lot of disturbances," he said.

90 arrests as violence breaks out during UK Extinction Rebellion protests - UPDATE: Activists gluing themselves to the street

extinctionm rebellion march
Dozens of people have been arrested as violence broke out during the Extinction Rebellion protests in central London.

Thousands of campaigners descended on Parliament Square on Tuesday afternoon where they blocked roads, bringing traffic to a standstill, chanted, banged drums and made a range of speeches.

The Metropolitan Police said 90 people had been arrested as of 6pm for offences including assaulting an emergency worker, obstructing police and public order breaches.

At least 10 people were carried away by officers after the group refused to move from the roads around Parliament Square.

Protesters chanted and cheered as the officers took them away to nearby police vans.

Video footage posted online also appeared to show demonstrator John Lynes, 92, being led away from Parliament Square by police.

Mr Lynes, who has taken part in previous demonstrations, was filmed walking with a stick, flanked by officers.

Comment: Like BLM, Anitfa and a host of other radical left wing organizations Extinction Rebellion is acting out of false premises, lies, and are the unwitting puppets of Globalist agenda-setters that couldn't be happier to see their dupes fight for centralized and authoritarian policies; like "sustainability," and the "Green New Deal".

The following Tweets and videos cover the protests, arrests and responses from the ideologically possessed and stupidly sympathetic elements of the public:

UPDATE: Now they're gluing themselves to the pavement...

Lockdown supporters are using psychology pseudoscience to label anti-maskers as irrational, stupid sociopaths

antimask protestors

Why are people who refuse to conform to Covid-19 rules being condemned as having personality disorders & of being morally inferior? Because their attackers see these terms as carrying the weight of science - but it's poppycock.

These days psychology is often applied as an ideological weapon to be wielded against political opponents. So I was not surprised to read a study that claimed that people who refuse to wear masks or comply with social distancing rules are likely to have sociopathic symptoms. In other words, they are sick people.

According to the Brazilian researchers who conducted the study, antisocial traits, such as low levels of empathy and high levels of callousness, deceitfulness and risk-taking characterize those people who refuse to wear masks.

Comment: It's not just 'bad', it's dangerous and has been used throughout history to justify all manner of atrocities. From Harrison Koehli's article- Does Not Complying With Social Distancing Rules Mean You're a Psychopath? The Answer is Obvious:
Psychology and psychiatry have a history of being used and abused by tyrannical nutjobs. In such a scenario, it is not a far leap from "some people who disagree with coerced social distancing are psychopaths" to "watch out for people who question the official narrative, they're probably psychopaths". In fact, that's the kind of misdirection psychopaths are expert at.
