Democrats whine as anti-free speech allies turn against them

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.)

You are "killing people," President Biden told social media companies a couple of years ago. He sought to shame executives into censoring more Americans. Biden has lashed out at disinformation by anti-vaxxers, "election deniers" and others. This month, those words were thrown back at Biden himself as a "genocide denier" by protesters who have labeled him "Genocide Joe" over his support for Israel.

After years of supporting censorship and blacklisting of people with opposing views, politicians and academics are finding themselves the subjects of the very anti-free speech tactics that they helped foster.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), for example, has been a leading figure in Congress opposing efforts to curtail massive censorship programs coordinated by the Biden administration. While opposing the investigation into past federal censorship efforts, Raskin continues to push social media companies to increase the censorship and silencing of Americans. Last December, Raskin sent a letter on behalf of other Democrats on the powerful House Oversight Committee demanding even more censorship, not only on election fraud, COVID or climate change, but also on abortion.

A massive container ship reportedly lost power on the Upper New York Bay - just before the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge connecting the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn.

According to Captain John Konrad, CEO of gCaptain, a New York City tugboat captain informed him that the 354-meter container ship APL QINGDAO "lost power while transiting New York harbor."

"They had 3 escort tugs but 3 more were needed to bring her under control. They regained power & were brought to anchor near the verrazano bridge," the tugboat captain told Konrad.

The Daily Mail reports:
A Virgin Atlantic 787 has collided with a British Airways Airbus A350 while pushing back from the terminal building at Heathrow airport causing minor damage to both aircraft.

The Virgin jet was being guided by a tug when its winglets struck the tail of the neighbouring BA jet.

Emergency services raced to the scene following the low-speed impact.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: 'We are aware that the wingtip of one of our empty aircraft came into contact with another aircraft whilst being towed from the stand at London Heathrow Terminal 3.

The Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787 struck the British Airways Airbus A350 as it was being pushed back from the terminal building at Heathrow Airport
'The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority. We can confirm no customers were on board the Virgin Atlantic aircraft during this time.

'We've commenced a full and thorough investigation and our engineering teams are performing maintenance checks on the aircraft, which for now has been taken out of service.'

One Twitter user, Alex Whittles wrote: 'Just witnessed a plane crash at Heathrow!

'A tug pushing back a Virgin 787, crashed the wing into a BA A350.'

The British Airways jet had recently arrived in London from Accra, Ghana and was due to depart on the return journey at 12.40pm from Gate 25 at Terminal 3.

It's departure has been pushed back to 6.30pm, according to Heathrow Airport's departure board.

BA said it has provided an alternative aircraft to 'limit the impact on our customers'.

A spokesperson said: 'One of our aircraft, whilst stationary at Heathrow earlier today, was involved in a collision with another airline's jet, which was being towed from a stand at the time.

'Our aircraft is being assessed by our engineering teams and we have provided an alternative aircraft to limit the impact on our customers.'

A Heathrow spokesperson said: 'We are working alongside emergency services and our airline partners in response to an incident involving two aircraft on the ground earlier today.

'At present, no passenger injuries have been reported and we do not anticipate there to be any ongoing impact to airport operations.'

Luggage handlers were operating in the area of the British Airways jet when the impact occurred.

At least five fire engines attended the scene in case there was any fuel leaks or possible fire. A host of other airport security officials secured the scene.

Virgin confirmed it had launched an investigation in a statement earlier today.

Investigators will want to know if there were sufficient personnel involved in the push back from the terminal building, and how the Virgin jet was able to strike the horizontal stabiliser of the British Airways jet.

It is understood Virgin Atlantic's flying programme has not been disrupted by the incident.

The tow movement was provided by a ground handling company under contract by Virgin Atlantic.

British Airways told MailOnline: 'One of our aircraft, whilst stationary at Heathrow earlier today, was involved in a collision with another airline's jet, which was being towed from a stand at the time.

'Our aircraft is being assessed by our engineering teams and we have provided an alternative aircraft to limit the impact on our customers.'

A doctor at a field hospital for detained Palestinians at Israel's Sde Teiman army base has described "deplorable conditions" and "routine" amputations due to handcuff injuries, according to an exclusive report from the newspaper Haaretz.

In a letter to Israel's attorney general and defense and health ministers, obtained by Haaretz, the doctor said the conditions at Sde Teiman field hospital compromise inmates' health and violate medical ethics.

"Just this week, two prisoners had their legs amputated due to handcuff injuries, which unfortunately is a routine event," the doctor said in the letter, according to the Haaretz report on Thursday. He wrote that inappropriate care at the detention facility has led to "complications and sometimes even in the patient's death," adding that "this makes all of us - the medical teams and you, those in charge of us in the health and defense ministries, complicit in the violation of Israeli law."

Comment: Not just Israeli law, international law, and crimes against humanity; and this isn't the only documented and routine violation: US State dept accuses Israel of 'systematically' sexually abusing Palestinian women, cites damning UN report

Comment: It's notable that, for many years, it has evidently been IDF protocol to target, and use specially designed ammunition, to maim Palestinians:

Whilst Israeli sadism against Palestinians has been ongoing for many years now, it's rather disturbing that, under the guise of 'dysphoria', amputation and castration is in the news more than ever before: Quebec man has two healthy fingers amputated to relieve 'body integrity dysphoria'

Car rams protesters demanding Netanyahu's resignation in Tel Aviv, 5 injured

israel protest 2024
Israeli police say the driver refused pleas to stop when he drove his vehicle into the crowd
A car plowed into a crowd of protesters demanding the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening, injuring five people. The driver was detained on the spot.

According to a brief statement from police on X (formerly Twitter), the incident took place on Namir Road, where an anti-government rally was being held. The demonstration was part of countrywide protests in which people urged Netanyahu to step down and called for the return of hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

Comment: Notably, this has happened at least once before, such as during the protests of July 2023, which were basically over the same issue.

There was also a seemingly unrelated car ramming attack in January 2024, also in Tel Aviv, but this time 'Palestinians' were blamed.

And other protest reports from Israel from the last week or so: Woe be to a society that fosters monsters:

Haiti has descended into "unprecedented" levels of violence and cruelty, a top human rights observer has claimed

A top UN human rights expert has likened conditions in Haiti to the "worst of times" in Somalia, saying the Caribbean nation has descended into unprecedented violence and chaos since gangs took over much of the capital last month.

"I'm running out of words, frankly, at this point," human rights observer William O'Neill told the UN Human Rights Council earlier this week. "It's apocalyptic, it's like the end of times." He added that the capital, Port-au-Prince, is suffering "a level of intensity and cruelty in the violence that is simply unprecedented in my experience in Haiti."

Comment: The situation is a culmination of over a century of US interference in a society that was one of the first to throw off its colonial masters.

The University of Texas has announced that, following the mandate of the state legislature, it will unwind its DEI bureaucracy. Specifically, administrators will close down its DEI division, require some DEI deans to return to teaching, and eliminate other DEI positions altogether.

This is the culmination of a year-long campaign to abolish DEI and restore the principle of colorblind equality.

McDonald's signed a deal to purchase all 225 of the restaurants that comprise its Israel franchise, the American fast-food chain announced, following months of dramatically lower sales due to pro-Palestinian boycott action amid the Israel-Hamas war.

The restaurant outlets in Israel have been owned by local licensee Alonyal Ltd., which is owned by Israeli businessman Omri Padan, for more than 30 years.

"An agreement to sell Alonyal to McDonald's Corporation has been signed," the McDonald's statement said Thursday. "Upon completion of the transaction, McDonald's Corporation will own Alonyal Limited's restaurants and operations, and employees will be retained on equivalent terms." The company did not disclose the purchase amount.

Russian city declares state of emergency over 'nuclear contamination' fears

Khabarovsk
A state of emergency is to remain for at least three more days in the Industrial district of the city of Khabarovsk
A state of emergency has been declared in a Russian city due to nuclear contamination.

The Russian authorities have not explained what is causing the alarming radiation in the Khabarovsk specialised plant 'Radon', southeast Russia.

A mystery radiation source was today 'removed and placed in a protective container' and 'transported to a radioactive waste storage facility'.

Yet a state of emergency is to remain for at least three more days in the Industrial district of the city, as law enforcement agencies examine the origin of the leak.

Comment: It remains to be seen whether this is corruption, negligence, or even sabotage:

Tennessee Lawmakers pass bill targeting mRNA vaccines in food

Following concerns over research to embed vaccines in produce, the Tennessee Senate has passed a bill which would require any food containing vaccines or vaccine materials to be labeled as pharmaceutical drugs.

The bill, HB 1894, was passed by the Senate in a 23-6 vote on March 28 after the state House passed it 73-22 on March 4. It awaits the governor's signature.

The bill comes in response to a University of California-Riverside research project looking into whether mRNA which targets pathogens could be implanted into edible plants, which would then be consumed. The research was funded by a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.

"You would have to get a prescription for that to make sure that we know how much of the lettuce you have to eat based off of your body type so we don't under-vaccinate you, which leads to the possibility of the efficacy of the drug being compromised, or we overdose you based off how much lettuce is [eaten]," said Republican state Rep. Scott Cepicky during a House committee meeting in February, WKRN-TV reports.

The fury of Europe's farmers

farmers revolt
The continent-wide revolt against the green agenda has shaken the EU elites to their core.

Europe's farmers are rising up - and the elites are terrified. In France, farmers recently staged a four-day 'siege of Paris', blocking major roads around the French capital. In January, thousands of tractors descended on Berlin in Germany, lining the streets leading up to the Brandenburg Gate. In Brussels, farmers have gathered from all over Europe to demonstrate against the EU and pelt the European Parliament with eggs.

In the Netherlands, tractors have caused the longest traffic jam in the nation's history, as part of a years-long battle between farmers and the government. This farmers' revolt is now truly Europe-wide. From Portugal to Poland, from Ireland to Italy, almost every EU country has been rocked by protests. So what is driving this populist uprising? What do the farmers want?
