ABC reporter Kristen Hentschel was paid thousands by lobbying firm to make hit pieces on politicians: report

An ABC producer used her credentials to create fake hit pieces on local politicians in Florida while pocketing thousands from a political lobbying firm, a report said.

Freelance producer Kristen Hentschel — who mostly worked for "Good Morning America" — was paid at least $14,350 by Alabama-based political consulting firm Matrix LLC to sandbag the environmentally friendly politicians with bogus questions, according to a report released Wednesday by NPR and Floodlight, an "environmental news collaborative."

Hentschel claimed to be working for ABC while filming the hit piece. The company said she had not been assigned to the story.

"Kristen Hentschel was a freelance daily hire who never worked for ABC News on the political stories referenced in the NPR article," the network said in a statement.

Hentschel, who has been fired from the network, primarily did freelance work for "Good Morning America," the same show plagued by rumors of an affair between hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes.

NHS ambulance strikes: don't get drunk and avoid 'risky activity', people told

Members of the public have been urged to avoid getting drunk or taking part in "risky activities" on Wednesday because strike-hit NHS ambulance services may not be able to treat them.

Thousands of paramedics and other personnel in NHS ambulance services across England and Wales will strike for between 12 and 24 hours on Wednesday, leaving the NHS unable to respond to many of the 999 calls it usually receives.

On Tuesday, NHS bosses and a government health minister advised people to behave in a "sensible" way during the strike in order to avoid ending up needing to go to A&E so that ambulance services can concentrate on helping those in greatest medical need.

Comment: And it's not just the NHS workers who are striking, rail and Royal Mail workers are also demanding more pay and better conditions. For more information on what it's like right now for ambulance workers, take a look at this Twitter thread:

Workers in Parliament are being asked whether their fathers are male or female in a move that has been branded 'woke nonsense'.

Anyone applying for a Westminster security pass must give details of their parents including their names, dates of birth and nationalities. But after a recent change by the authorities, applicants, including MPs' staff, must now also list their mother and father's gender identities.

Vetting forms seen by the Mail require employees to provide information about their 'birth father' including their gender.

The school board and superintendent of an Indiana school district refused to comment Monday on a recently uncovered transgender policy for students that keeps parents in the dark, nearly two weeks after a public meeting at which parents demanded that officials explain why they're hiding information.

Concerned parents in Pendleton, Indiana, flocked to the Dec. 8 school board meeting three days after The Daily Signal exposed the school district's secret policy and a so-called Gender Support Plan for transitioning students.

School Board President Joel Sandefur, other school board members, Schools Superintendent Mark Hall, and one of his assistants all refused to respond to The Daily Signal's latest request for answers to five key questions about the secret policy before Monday's publication deadline. Those questions are specified below.

"You should be ashamed," one mother told Hall and the school board at the Dec. 8 meeting. "I trusted you with my children and you lied to me — to us."

Ontario student suspended for defending right of female students to single-sex bathrooms

Josh Alexander
An Ontario student faces being expelled from his Catholic high school because he stood up for the right of female students to have access to single-sex bathrooms.

Josh Alexander, who is in Grade 11 at St. Joseph's High School in Renfrew, organized a protest last month after some girls confided in him that they were uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with male students, reports LifeSiteNews.

Alexander went to school administration with the girls' concerns but was told that nothing would be done unless a girl made the complaint directly. But after Alexander returned with one of the girls who was concerned for her safety and privacy, the school staff still refused to take action to ease her discomfort.

Five people were killed when a gunman stormed into a condo board meeting in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday and opened fire, cops said.

The gunman was shot and killed by police at a condo in Vaughan, Ontario, after going on his murderous rampage, according to Chief James MacSween of the York regional police.

"Horrendous scene," MacSween said. "Six deceased. One of them is the subject. The other five are victims."

In addition to the five dead, one other person was struck by gunfire and was recovering at a hospital Sunday night.

The chief said there was no further threat to the community and was hoping to get residents back into the building after a special unit's investigation is concluded.

The gunman's identity was not released late Sunday and a motive for the violence was unknown.

Democrat Stacey Abrams frittered away funds on renting a house for TikTok creators and a "swag truck" to distribute campaign merchandise during her second unsuccessful run for governor in Georgia, according to a report.

The lavish spending by the campaign, which raised more than $100 million, backfired — and by the end of Abrams' failed attempt to defeat Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, staffers' benefits were slashed and crucial TV airtime was cut, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The revelations come in the wake of Abrams' campaign manager, Lauren Groh-Wargo, telling Axios that the campaign owes vendors more than $1 million.

You might want to brace yourself for this one

Everyone knows that the quality of education in our public schools is declining. We continue to fall behind the rest of the world, and this is particularly true in science and in math. Personally, I am a product of the public schools. I attended public schools all the way through high school, and I earned three degrees at public universities. And I have to admit that the quality of the education that I received was terrible. If I had not spent a great deal of time and effort educating myself, I would not be able to do what I do today. Sadly, things have gotten even worse in recent decades. Today, a large proportion of our young people are not even equipped to function on a very basic level in our society once they graduate from high school, and that has huge implications for the future of our country.

When I was growing up, kids would start learning algebra before they even got to high school.
