One week after a federal judge ruled that Visa Inc. allegedly helped monetize child pornography through adult websites like Pornhub, the payment processing giant on Thursday said it would suspend its services with the advertising arm of Pornhub's parent company, MindGeek.

Last week, U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney of the Central District of California wrote, "Visa knew that MindGeek's websites were teeming with monetized child porn," in the Fleites v. MindGeek lawsuit filed last year alleging Pornhub's operator violated federal sex trafficking and child pornography laws.

Visa, who has since condemned child sex trafficking, sexual exploitation, and child sex abuse materials, had asked the court to dismiss the claim that the company violated a California law prohibiting false advertising and illegal business practices. However, Judge Carney denied the request.

Alex Jones ordered to pay $4.1 million to Sandy Hook family in defamation case, Jan 6 committee after Jones' text messages

alex jones court
A Texas jury has ordered InfoWars' Alex Jones to pay $4.11 million in defamation damages to the parents of a child killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre after he made repeated claims that the 2012 shooting was a hoax.

Jones spread falsehoods that the massacre was a government operation to push gun control legislation and that the families of the 27 victims were complicit, according to the New York Times.

On December 14, 2012, 20 first-grade students and six educators were murdered when lone gunman, Adam Lanza, entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut with a semi-automatic rifle after killing his mother at home.

Comment: More from the Post Millennial:
During the trial, it was revealed that Jones' lawyer, Andino Reynal, had accidentally sent the prosecution his client's phone records dating back two years. Those records may soon fall into the hands of the January 6 Committee.

According to the Daily Wire, prosecuting attorney Mark Bankston revealed on Thursday said that he was "under request from various federal agencies and law enforcement to provide [the records]," noting that he intended to do so "immediately" following the hearing unless he was barred by the judge.

He stated that he had been "asked by the January 6 committee to turn the documents over," but did not disclose who else had approached him.

"I believe that there is absolutely nothing, nothing, that Mr. Reynal has done to fulfill his obligations to protect his client and prevent me from doing that," Bankston added.

The judge advised Reynal to see if there were any legal options available to him as he seeks to keep his client's records out of the hands of the committee.

The records in question contain two years' worth of text messages, many of which allegedly involve people of interest to the January 6 Committee. Jones himself was subpoenaed by the committee in November because he was a visible participant in the protest on January 6 even though did not participate in the riot.

Another one: Minnesota's Mall of America briefly placed on lockdown after gunshots send shoppers fleeing

© TwitterThe Mall of America in Minnesota was place on lockdown after shots were fired inside, according to police.
The Mall of America was briefly placed on lockdown Thursday after police said at least three shots were fired inside the building as terrified shoppers, including NASCAR driver Kyle Busch and his wife, sheltered in place.

The shots rang out at the Minnesota mall at around 6 p.m. as police said an "active incident" caused a lockdown.

Busch's wife posted on social media after the shooting to say the family was at the Mall of America during the shooting and were able to exit safely.

Comment: More from the Post Millennial:
Nearly an hour later, the Bloomington Police Department provided an update and said the shooting was an "isolated incident" and that officers are attempting to locate a suspect.

"We have secured the scene at the Mall of America and can confirm that shots were fired. This is an isolated incident. The suspect fled the MOA on foot and officers are in the process of interviewing witnesses. At this time we have not located a victim," BPD wrote.

Best of the Web: Eva Bartlett: Today, Ukraine bombed a Donetsk hotel full of journalists - here's what it felt like to be there

Another attack from Kiev has hit central Donetsk, targeting a funeral and a hotel where numerous reporters stay and work.

At 10:13 am today (Thursday), Ukraine began shelling central Donetsk. There were five powerful blasts in the space of ten minutes. The last explosion blew out my hotel's ground-floor glass, including a sitting room - where journalists often congregate before and after going out to do field reporting - and the lobby. About one minute earlier, I had passed through the latter. A cameraman's assistant who was there at the time of that fifth explosion suffered a concussion from the force of the blast.

A woman walking outside the building was killed, as were at least four others, including a child. Donetsk Telegram channels are filled with videos locals have taken, of the dead, the injured and the damage, and of grief-stricken people. One such hard-to-watch Telegram post (warning: graphic footage) features a man in shock at the gruesome sight of the bodies of his murdered wife and grandchild on a street two blocks from the hotel.

US declares state of emergency over Monkeypox, removing regulatory barriers to its response

Monkey pox
© Mario Tama/Getty ImagesThe US is slated to declare a state of emergency as Monkey pox cases continue to rise.
The Biden Administration declared a health emergency over the growing Monkeypox outbreak Thursday.

The declaration allows the federal government to amp up its response to the virus without the usual regulatory barriers.

"I want to make an announcement today that I will be declaring a public health emergency," Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra said in a call with reporters Thursday about the monkeypox outbreak.

"We're prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus."

Comment: A rather ominous statement in the new normal.

"We urge every American to take monkey pox seriously and to take responsibility and help us tackle this virus," he continued.

Comment: Every American? When it primarily affects gay men? And, at present, an extremely small minority of those.

Vladislav Ugolniy: Donbass cyber guerrilla and 'Russkiy mir' nationalist tells of his experience since 2014

Z symbol Russia
I'd like to introduce Vladislav Ugolniy, a Russian nationalist in Donetsk and a founder of OPCB โ€” a humanitarian aid and media project which I can't for the life of me translate. When I asked Ugolniy to help me out he just chuckled and said it was an inside joke. So there, sorry, I tried.

Ugolniy is well-known in youth patriotic circles and wants to work on preserving the Russian heritage of the Ukraine, once the Russian military takes it all that is. He sees himself as a culture warrior and wants to create a positive counter-culture to counteract Liberal and Western influence. He is a proponent of the idea of the "Russkiy Mir" (Russian world) and the reunification of the Slavlands.

Ugolniy and his people are quite active and provide drone training to DNR, LNR and Russian fighters in the Donbass. But their main function is providing information to the military command operating in the Donbass. They run a network of pro-Russian sympathizers and informants. Pro-Russians send them information, which they analyze and pass on to military command. Their work has led to several strikes on Ukrainian positions thanks to information provided to them by locals. Internet meme veterans have probably heard of similar volunteer groups providing information to the Russian military and Assad's government in Syria which led to targeted missile strikes on ISIS training facilities.

Majority of Britons expect cost of living crisis to cause energy poverty deaths, riots

A majority of Britons fear the energy and cost of living crisis will end with people unable to heat their homes in winter dying and riots on the streets.

Polling commissioned by the More in Common group โ€” whose director Luke Tryl said the results should be "a wake-up call to our next Prime Minister" that "people want help now" โ€” found that some almost nine-tenths of Britons believe the crisis will impact their day-to-day lives. Shockingly, around three-quarters believe there will be deaths this winter as people find themselves unable to afford their heating bills and succumb to the cold.

Eighty per cent believe people will resort to shoplifting to keep their heads above water, 70 per cent believe people will simply refuse to pay their bills, and over half โ€” 51 per cent โ€” believe things will degrade to the point that their are riots in the streets, The Sun reports.

Comment: Commoners realize there is no plan. Self-serving BoJo bailed just in time and Parliament has no clue.

Maksim Artemyev: Public opinion seems to be turning against the military draft in Ukraine, how will the Zelensky regime respond?

Zelensky

Five months into Russia's military offensive in Ukraine many in the latter state are starting to vocalise their objection to the draft imposed by the regime in Kiev. Especially as the propaganda about victory, any day now, starts to lose its power.

Popular Ukrainian blogger and activist Yury Kasyanov recently made a post on his Facebook page, in which he complained:
"Let's stop the mobilization, open the borders, and dissolve all the military recruitment offices... Let the professionals do the fighting - after all, they get paid for it - and let the volunteers join in, because they want to fight. But I am an untrained civilian, unfit for war; I'm going to get myself killed. And I pay my taxes, too!"
With this provocative post, Kasyanov intended to spark a discussion about mandatory conscription in Ukraine. But the results of the debate came as a shock to the blogger:
"Judging by the comments on the previous post, nine out of ten Ukrainians have no intention to fight; they oppose nationwide mobilization, as well as the ban on men leaving the country."
It should be noted that Kasyanov's followers, like himself, are fierce supporters of the idea that Ukraine must fight Russia to the bitter end. And yet, even among them, the vast majority have no desire to die for the glory of Ukraine.

Blake Masters, other Trump-backed candidates win key primaries Tuesday

Blake Masters, who was backed by both former President Trump and his old boss, venture capitalist Peter Thiel, won Tuesday's Republican primary for the US Senate race in Arizona, according to the Associated Press.

With around 80% of ballots counted, Masters had 39% of the vote vs. challengers Jim Lamon (29%) and state AG Mark Brnovich (18%). As the Wall Street Journal notes, Arizona Republicans see the Senate race as one of their best chances to snatch a seat from the Democrats.

Thiel, a billionaire, pumped $15 million of his own money into a super PAC that boosted Masters, who will take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly, a former astronaut, in the November general election.

Elsewhere in Arizona, Trump-backed Mark Finchem - who says there was fraud in the 2020 election in Arizona's Pima County, won the Republican nomination for Secretary of State. Another candidate, former TV anchor Kari Lake who had Trump's backing, held a slight edge early Wednesday over real estate developer and AZ Board of Regents member Karrin Taylor Robson, who was endorsed by former VP Mike Pence.
