This is the worst of times for U.S. farmers. Coming into 2026, we were already in the midst of the worst farming crisis in at least 50 years. Now the war in the Middle East has caused fertilizer prices to go absolutely haywire, and a historic drought has created nightmare conditions for farmers from coast to coast. What we are witnessing is truly unprecedented. One recent survey discovered that 70 percent of U.S. farmers won't be able to afford all of the fertilizer that they need this year. When have we ever seen that happen before? And some farmers are telling us that they may not plant anything at all this year due to extreme drought. If the information in this article shocks you, that is good, because we all need a major league wake up call right now.

DOJ charged nine defendants with conspiracy to impede or injure an officer.

A federal judge has ruled that three defendants facing charges for their role in a protest in Spokane last June will go to trial in May, throwing out their motions to dismiss the case.

Last June, local law enforcement arrested dozens of people after a protest at a federal facility resulted in demonstrators blocking agents from leaving and allegedly damaging a transport vehicle. The Trump administration then indicted nine of the protesters about a month later on federal conspiracy charges.

Six of the defendants have taken a plea deal, including Ben Stuckart, the former Spokane City Council president, who called on people to prevent agents from transferring immigrants to a facility in Tacoma.​

Supreme Court gives Colorado Catholic preschools chance to take down another anti-religious state rule

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear a challenge to Colorado's exclusion of Catholic preschools from its state-funded program.

An appeals court previously backed the state's decision to discriminate against Catholic schools seeking to participate in its universal preschool program, which provides children with 15 hours of free weekly education.

"Colorado excludes Catholic preschools because they admit only families who support Catholic beliefs, including on sex and gender," the petition filed by Catholic families, preschools and the Archdiocese of Denver states.

The cross was part of a small shrine in a family garden on the edge of the village, according to Fadi Falfel, a priest in Debel

A soldier from the Israel Defence Forces has been photographed striking a statue of Jesus with an axe in Lebanon.

The Israeli military responded, saying it views the incident with 'great severity' and that 'the soldier's conduct is wholly inconsistent with the values expected of its troops'.

The image shows the soldier wielding the axe in Deble, a Christian village in south Lebanon near the border with Israel.

Lebanon was drawn into the Middle East crisis in early March when the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah launched rockets towards Israel in support of the Islamic Republic.

Comment: Bibi feigns outrage, but not that well. It's not like no one knew what Israel was planning. The West sees Lebanon and its people as disposable.

The vote was the latest sign of Democrats' growing consensus against aid to Israel, as support for the country hits an all-time low.

On Wednesday night, the Senate rejected a pair of resolutions that would have blocked the sale of bombs and bulldozers to Israel.

Although the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, which were introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) failed to pass, a record number of Senators backed the effort. 40 Senators backed a resolution would have blocked the sale of $295 million in D9R and D9T Caterpillar bulldozers to Israel and 36 members voted for a resolution that would have stopped a $151.8 million sale of 1,000-pound bombs to Israel.

"The fact that 40 of 47 Democratic Senators voted to withhold military hardware from Israel is a new high water mark in holding Israel accountable for violating US and international law," tweeted Center for International Policy Vice President for Government Affairs Dylan Williams.

Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian truck drivers hired by UNICEF and injured two others during routine water delivery operations at a filling point in northern Gaza on 17 April.

"UNICEF is outraged by the killing of two drivers of trucks contracted by UNICEF to provide clean water to families in the Gaza Strip," a statement from the UN agency reads.

UNICEF added the victims were "killed by Israeli fire in an incident that took place early this morning at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza."

Comment: The "most moral army in the world" destroys the lives of relief workers, journalists and innocent civilians, on a daily basis, as a matter of course. Though we have now heard scores of these stories, we can't afford to become numb to it - but should continue to acknowledge that a rampaging force for evil is still on the loose.

About 1,000 animal welfare activists who tried to gain entry Saturday to a beagle breeding and research facility in Wisconsin were turned back by police who fired rubber bullets and pepper spray into the crowd and arrested the group's leader.

It was the second attempt in as many months by protesters to take beagles from the Ridglan Farms facility in Blue Mounds, a small town about 25 miles (about 40 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Madison.

Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett, said in a video statement that 300 to 400 protesters were "violently trying to break into the property" and assault officers. He said protesters have ignored designated areas for peaceful protest and blocked roads to prevent emergency vehicles from entering.

"This is not a peaceful protest," Barrett said.

NY State loses $73M in federal highway funding over failing to cancel illegal CDLs

Over $73 million in federal highway funds are being withheld from New York state after an audit found more than half the state's commercial drivers licenses (CDL) were issued to foreigners illegally.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced yesterday that the state failed to revoke "illegally issued nondomiciled commercial learner's permits and commercial driver's licenses."

According to a December press release from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) nationwide audit of non-domiciled commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) uncovered a shocking 53 percent failure rate in the records sampled, indicating serious problems in New York's CDL program.

Brussels' mandatory ID‑checking software was reportedly hacked in just two minutes after its release, Pavel Durov has said.

The EU's newly unveiled age‑verification app is a "surveillance tool" disguised as a privacy‑respecting solution, Telegram founder Pavel Durov has warned. Security researchers were reportedly able to bypass its protections in under two minutes.

The app, which was presented by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday, is intended to let users prove their age online without revealing personal data. Von der Leyen called it "technically ready" and said it meets the "highest privacy standards."

But Durov has dismissed those claims, alleging that the app is "hackable by design" and is part of the EU's three‑step plan - to present a "privacy‑respecting" but vulnerable app, let it get hacked, then remove privacy features under the guise of fixing it.

"The EU bureaucrats needed an excuse to silently start turning their 'privacy‑respecting' age verification app into a surveillance mechanism over all Europeans," Durov said.
