Remember Russiagate? Vox writer ROASTED for claiming Democrats 'mostly CONTAINED' their conspiracy nuts

A senior writer at the liberal explainer site Vox got the left and right to unite in laughter and mockery, as they dunked on his claim that Democrats have nothing like QAanon and have done better with their conspiracy "nuttery."

"Conspiracy theories typically flourish among parties out of power," Zach Beauchamp tweeted on Thursday. "Yet Democrats mostly contained the Louise Mensch-style nuttery while a QAnon devotee is going to Congress."

Beauchamp was referring to a Republican candidate for Congress who just won a primary and was an admitted fan of the vague, pro-Trump conspiracy movement. It did not take long for pundits from all over the political spectrum to point out the stunning lack of self-awareness at work.

Comment: The absurdity of this 3-yo circus is enough to make sane people cry.

Uproar after Somali lawmaker presents bill to legalise child marriage

Hafsa was married off at 13 by her father to a man who paid $100. She and her mother say she was beaten and raped for two years before they convinced him to divorce her.

"The man just slept with me, beating me always," she said, sitting by her mother, who clutches her daughter tightly. "I regretted I was born."

There is no law mandating a minimum age for marriage in Somalia. A bill introduced in parliament this month by a presidential ally caused a storm of criticism from lawmakers when they realised it would legalise marriage at puberty - as early as 10 for some girls.

Data from a government survey this year shows that nearly a third of girls are married before their 18th birthday - just under half of those before the age of 15.

American Samoa 'hostage situation' & Rhode Island 'calamari ninja': Twitter loses it over DNC's virtual roll call

As the Democratic Party moved to nominate Joe Biden, viewers watching at home were somewhat distracted, infatuated with Rhode Island's calamari-wielding "ninja" and a bizarre "hostage-taking" scene in American Samoa.

The party's national convention pushed into its second night on Tuesday, seeing Biden officially elevated as the Democrats' 2020 presidential candidate alongside running mate Kamala Harris. During the roll call vote prior to the nomination, however, spectators couldn't help but notice that delegates in American Samoa, a US territory, were flanked by a pair of uniformed soldiers, giving the appearance that they had been taken captive.

Melbourne: Authorities to use surveillance drones to catch people not wearing masks

Authorities in Melbourne, Australia will use high-tech surveillance drones to catch people outside not wearing masks as well as to scan for vehicles that are in violation of curfew by being more than 5km from home.

"High powered drones will be used to find people not wearing masks and cars too far from home," according to a 7News Melbourne news report.
The drones will also be used to ensure skate parks and playgrounds remain empty.

The surveillance devices can be flown up to a distance of 7km and produce images so clear they can "read a vehicle's number plate from 500 meters away."

Privacy advocates are concerned that there is no sunset clause on the use of such technology and the drones could continue to be used to spy on citizens after the pandemic ends.

7News Melbourne spoke to two residents who said they weren't worried because they were behaving and had "nothing to hide."

Best of the Web: The case for masks, school closings, & social isolation just collapsed!

The purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded and even destroyed.
A society of emasculated liars is easy to control.

-Theodore Dalrymple
The Annals of Internal Medicine just published a comprehensive new study on how contagious the COVID-19 virus is. And I'm sorry to report that the case for a number of popular new practices that seem to have filled some spiritual need a lot of Americans have for self-abasement just completely collapsed.

The list of practices no longer having any conceivable rationale includes:
  • Closing down schools.
  • Closing down gyms, barber shops, or any other businesses.
  • Limiting the number of patrons allowed in restaurants or other businesses at one time.
  • Mass testing for the COVID-19 virus.
  • Putting healthy people in quarantine.
  • Keeping a distance of 3, 6, or some other arbitrary number of feet away from healthy individuals.
  • Healthy individuals with no criminal intent wearing masks when it's not Halloween.
Likewise for any other humiliating rituals state and local officials plan on forcibly enacting to keep you safe from the scourge of COVID-19 that their own sense of self-worth precludes participating in.

'Directed by Epstein's ghost!?' Netflix film about '11yo twerking & exploring her femininity' bashed for 'promoting child porn'

Cuties

A Netflix film set to debut next month has drawn major public backlash and a petition to see it cancelled, with critics insisting the mature-rated movie - centered on an 11-year-old wannabe dancer - sexualizes children.

Scheduled for release on the platform in September, the French film 'Cuties' bills itself as a coming-of-age drama that hits on modern social issues, following protagonist Amy, a pre-teen girl from a conservative family who joins a school dancing troupe.

Comment: The sickness of Western culture and "liberal" values becomes more and more evident with each passing day.

A "coming of age" story? With 11 years old dancers?! The producers of the film aren't fooling anybody. Well maybe some.

The lights are going out on one of TikTok's brightest stars.

The mayor of Los Angeles has shut the power to Bryce Hall's Hollywood Hills rental home after officials said the TikTok influencer repeatedly held massive parties in violation of the city's coronavirus regulations, the New York Times first reported.

"Despite several warnings, this house has turned into a nightclub in the hills, hosting large gatherings in flagrant violation of our public health orders," LA Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement Wednesday.

"The City has now disconnected utilities at this home to stop these parties that endanger our community."

Comment: Hall and his parties are doing more for herd immunity to this nothingburger virus than all of mayor's bleating about 'saving lives'. This is not the first time Garcetti has flexed his totalitarian muscle, either:

'We believe in law enforcement': Texas governor pledges to financially punish cities that attempt to defund the police

Governor of Texas Greg Abbott has issued a stark warning to left-leaning cities in the Lone Star State, saying he will withdraw funding from municipalities that try to defund law enforcement agencies.

The Republican politician sent the unambiguous message after Austin's city council slashed its police budget by $150 million last week. "Texas will defund cities that try to defund their police. We support law enforcement in Texas," Abbott tweeted late on Wednesday.

Discussing the issue on Fox News, Governor Abbott accused liberal precincts of "caving to socialism," and argued that the violence that's erupted in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, New York, and "cities across the country" in recent months offers proof that defunding the police is a dangerous move.
