Five reasons why England's new coronavirus lockdown is not justified

Lockdown in London
© In Pictures via Getty Images/Mike KempAs Londoners await the second coronavirus national lockdown people still come to visit the sights such as Tower Bridge, some wearing face masks and some not, on what will be the last few days of normality before a month-long total lockdown in the UK on 2nd November 2020 in London, United Kingdom.
There's a grave danger that Boris Johnson's decision to shut down the country again s based on a flawed, one-eyed interpretation of the facts, and that the 'cure' will be worse than the disease, again. Have we learned nothing?

On Saturday night, British prime minister Boris Johnson confirmed the worst-kept secret of the moment: that England would be going back into lockdown from Thursday 5 November - Bonfire Night. But the only things going up in smoke will be some of our most basic freedoms - and it's far from clear that such a clampdown is justified.

This was a moment that Johnson would have preferred to avoid, having made clear just a couple of weeks ago that he thought the idea of another lockdown was the "height of absurdity". Yet it would appear that he has been persuaded that "there is no alternative", echoing a phrase made famous by Margaret Thatcher. He said that "the virus is spreading even faster than the reasonable worst case scenario of our scientific advisers, whose models... now suggest that unless we act we could see deaths in this country running at several thousand a day, a peak of mortality alas far bigger than the one we saw in April."

Police interrupted a "possible arson attempt" at a Starbucks on the ground floor of an apartment building in Portland. Protesters then threatened to spit at responding officers and vowed more violence to come on election night.

According to police, a group of some 100 protesters smashed up windows at the Portland State University, breaking windows to the Public Safety Office reception area before attacking several other buildings on campus and finally turning their attention to a Starbucks on the ground floor of an apartment building.

Officers from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, Portland Police Bureau, and Oregon State Police declared a riot and cleared the area, interrupting what they described as a "possible arson attempt."

Comment: As Portland prepares to handle violence and destruction, especially on the eve of the election, federal officers find themselves restrained to specific locations and parameters. The situation does not bode well and this is just the beginning:

'Bob and Sally' political cartoon draws ire on Election Day Eve

Sally and Bob
Election Day Eve is officially here and the annual "Bob and Sally" meme has hit social media again. Twitter users are not happy about it resurfacing this year. This meme surfaced in 2017 after President Donald Trump was inaugurated into office. It came from a Facebook group named, "The Silent Majority."

The meme reads, "This is Bob. He votes Republican. This is Bob's friend, Sally. Sally votes Democrat. Bob and Sally are still friends, because Bob and Sally are both adults. Be like Bob and Sally."

This has barely received any positive feedback, especially on the eve of this year's controversial election.

Comment: First things first. Twitter isn't reality. The nutters ranting on Twitter are not representative of the people across the US. They are a very small percentage of crazies who think their tiny world is much bigger than it is. Most people actually are like Sally and Bob. Those who aren't can have all the crazy they want.

Open letter to the Covid-corrupted media: Non-stop reporting, alarming and fearmongering

An appeal to the CEOs of Worldwide Media Giants... Also addressed to, We, the People.
We, The People, are concerned about worldwide media reporting about covid.

Are you, Western Media Moguls, realizing that there is hardly anything else on your programs other than covid? - Covid is at the center of everything. Covid discussions appear every hour on the hour, in the news and in between the news.

Covid reporting is non-stop alarming and fearmongering.

New "cases", new "infections" are reported almost on an hourly basis of the country concerned. Covid "cases" double or triple every 24 hours. It's astounding; really fear-inflicting. We are entering a "second wave"; hospitals are overflowing; you must submit to testing-testing-testing, it is key, so we can prevent others from being infected.

You must wear masks; you must respect social distancing - quarantine is obligatory, confinement, alias house arrest, closing bars restaurants public places, curfew - walking in the streets, even for food shopping, with license only, police squadrons surveillance — a universal tyranny the world has not known in history remembered.

Kirstie Alley's treatment is yet another reminder that 'liberals' can't cope when women and black voters don't agree with them

The 'Cheers' actress is the latest public figure to show us the intolerance of the left when it comes to women and black Americans dissenting from and even criticizing them.

If the 2020 presidential election cycle has shown us one thing it's that the US has an issue with tolerance at the moment. While tribalism is prevalent in both major political parties, it is the anti-Trump crowd that has proven themselves to have a particular issue with women and black voters who express opinions that break their narrative of the Republican Party equaling white supremacy.

Kirstie Alley is the latest to burst out of the leftist bubble of Hollywood and target liberals. The 'Cheers' star has faced near-constant criticism on social media for her support of Donald Trump, and she appeared on Fox News' 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' on Sunday to slam CNN for fear-mongering when it comes to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The governor of Russia's second largest city has warned locals to prepare for a new wave of "severe restrictions" aimed at combating Covid-19 if infection rates continue to rise. St Petersburg had a strict lockdown last spring.

The head of the city's administration, Alexander Beglov, called on locals to respect the measures already in force, such as wearing masks and gloves, saying "if we do not fully comply with the requirements of epidemic safety, if we do not use protective equipment everywhere, we will, unfortunately, have to introduce strict restrictions."

His warning comes after the city recorded 944 new cases of the virus on Tuesday morning. Russia, as well as much of Europe, is currently experiencing a heightened number of Covid-19 infections, with a total of 18,648 diagnoses recorded across the country on Monday. Since the pandemic began last spring, the country has confirmed a total of 1,673,686 cases.

A history of the Swedish Covid response

tegnell sweden
The Swedish response to the covid pandemic has become one of the most talked about topics of the last six months, and there's a lot of misinformation floating around. Since that's the case, and since I keep getting asked what the situation on the ground is really like in Sweden, I figured I'd write up a little history, covering the key events from a Swedish perspective, and detailing exactly which restrictions were put in place at what time point, and why.

But first, and perhaps most importantly, why did Sweden decide to follow such an aberrant path?

Actually, to be honest, Sweden could never have done otherwise. The Swedish constitution declares that Swedes have the right to move freely within Sweden, and to leave the country if they so wish. There is a law, the Swedish infectious diseases act, which allows certain limited restrictions to be put in place, but it doesn't allow for a general lockdown. And the power of the state to enforce restrictions on individuals is heavily limited. That is likely the main reason why the Swedish response to covid-19 has been so much more limited than that seen in other countries.

Do I think Swedish politicians are wiser than politicians in other countries? No, of course not. But while some other governments probably caved under internal pressure from their own media and external pressure from other governments and international organizations, the Swedish government couldn't have caved even if it had wanted to.

Large parts of Swedish mainstream media have actually been very pro-lockdown from the start, and have been much more in line with foreign media than they have been with the Swedish state. As an example, on March 13th, at the start of the pandemic, Peter Wolodarski, editor of Sweden's biggest daily broadsheet newspaper, Dagens Nyheter, demanded a lockdown in line with other countries. And tabloids have been full of scare stories. As in every other western country, Swedish media have been feeding people a daily dose of case numbers and death statistics that are never placed in any context. So, while media in most other countries have been marching in lockstep with their national governments, that has not been the case in Sweden.

Greece has imposed severe lockdowns in the city of Thessaloniki and province of Serres, starting from 6am local time on Tuesday, in a bid to curb a second wave of Covid-19 infections.

Non-essential flights to Thessaloniki, the Mediterranean country's second-largest city, have been suspended, with residents there only permitted to leave their homes for specific reasons and obliged to notify authorities first via text message.

The government is also expanding night-time curfews both in the newly locked-down areas and some of the other most populous parts of the country, while bars, restaurants, museums, and theaters are being shut for a month.

Russian PR executive outed as 'source' of 'Russiagate' Steele Dossier claims it was made up by British spy's employee

After being accused of being behind the controversial Steele Dossier, a discredited report detailing alleged misconduct by President Trump and the catalyst for 'Russiagate,' Olga Galkina claims she had nothing to do with it.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal pointed the finger at Galkina as the source of information for former British spy Christopher Steele's report, which was publicly released by Buzzfeed, in 2017. Initially funded by the US Democratic Party, the information was meant to discredit Trump by showing him as being compromised by Russians.

It suggested that the President used Moscow's help to win the 2016 US Presidential election. It led to years of political chaos in the US, and the protracted 'Mueller Investigation,' which failed to find evidence to support the assertions.

According to Galkina, the dossier was likely entirely invented by her former classmate Igor Danchenko, who added her name to improve its credibility. Danchenko is a Russian emigre in the US, who has worked for Washington think tank industry.

Extreme TDS: Bizarre Trump/Hitler tweet by psychiatrist who appeared on CNN & MSNBC explodes

Dr. Bandy X. Lee, who has evaluated the mental state of Donald Trump on CNN and MSNBC, is defending herself against shocked critics after bizarrely comparing and contracting Adolf Hitler and the president.

"Donald Trump is not an Adolf Hitler," Lee announced on Monday through Twitter, then diving into a rant where she seemingly argued the infamous dictator is more "competent" than Trump.

"At least Hitler improved the daily life of his followers, had discipline, and required more of himself to gain the respect of his followers. Even with the same pathology, there are varying degrees of competence."

After a wave of criticism, Lee deleted her tweet and then defended herself by saying she was not actually arguing that Hitler is "better" than Trump.
