Biden says during CNN town hall 'we didn't have' a coronavirus vaccine when he took office

President Biden was slammed by conservatives on social media after saying, "We didn't have a vaccine," when he came into office on Jan. 20.

"It's one thing to have the vaccine," Biden told CNN's Anderson Cooper during a town hall event on Tuesday night. "Which we didn't have when we came into office. But a vaccinator, how do you get the vaccine into someone's arm."

Conservatives, including former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, quickly took issue with Biden's comment.

"Biden says there was no vaccine when he came into office," McEnany tweeted. "That is abjectly FALSE. President Trump brought about the fastest vaccine for a novel pathogen in history. How does Joe get away with this?"

During the same town hall Biden suggested we'll be living in 'very different circumstances by Christmas. We very well may, but probably not in the way he predicts.
Biden waxed optimistic about the ongoing viral outbreak during a CNN town hall event on Tuesday, declaring that "by next Christmas, I think we'll be in a very different circumstance, God willing, than we are today." He said the improvement would be further helped along if an inoculation developed by Johnson & Johnson receives FDA approval, as it is expected to sometime this month.

"A year from now, I think that there'll be significantly fewer people having to be socially distanced, have to wear masks, etc.," the president went on, adding, however, "But we don't know. So I don't want to over-promise anything here. I told you when I ran and when I got elected, I will always level with you."

Google to pay News Corp to distribute content in global deal

The News Corp media conglomerate said Wednesday it has reached a deal for Google to pay for news content of its newspapers shared on the search giant's News Showcase.

The three-year agreement with News Corp includes the development of a subscription platform, the sharing of ad revenue through Google's ad technology services, and "meaningful investments" in video journalism by YouTube.

News Corp's announcement did not share the financial details of the agreement, and a spokesperson for Google declined to share the details when asked.

President Vladimir Putin has warned against using nationalist slogans like "Russia is just for Russians," stating his belief that members of each relevant ethnic group should feel at home in the country.

The president was speaking to leaders of Russia's parliamentary parties in a video conference on Wednesday. "Caveman nationalism, with the slogan 'Russia is only for Russians,' only harms Russians, only harms Russia," he said. "We shouldn't allow this to happen. Of course, we must make sure that the culture of every nation, its history, and roots of every nation is respected and honored in our country."

Russia is a multiethnic society, made up of not just Slavic people but also Central Asian indigenous groups, such as Tatars and Bashkirs. The country also has a large number of migrants from foreign countries, most of which were formerly part of the Soviet Union, like Armenia, Georgia and Tajikistan.

Germany's Saxony state says masked drivers BANNED from wearing sunglasses & hats

Drivers must still be identifiable by traffic cameras, even when they follow existing health protocols and wear masks, a new rule in Germany's eastern region says.

According to the Bild newspaper, Saxony became the first region in Germany to ban hats and sunglasses on masked drivers.

"Wearing a hat and sunglasses in addition to a mask that covers the face and mouth makes [the driver] unrecognizable. So that's not allowed," Saxony's Interior Minister Roland Woller said.

Woller explained that "general facial features" of the driver must still be visible to the road safety cameras. He added that officials responsible for handing out fines to drivers were advised to handle the new rule on a case-by-case basis.

Starting from Monday, people are required to wear masks in vehicles in Saxony if members of more than two households are traveling together.

Last month, Germans were mandated to wear medical-grade respirator-type masks on public transport and when going to supermarkets. Simple cloth or homemade masks are not allowed in such cases.

Moscow's deputy foreign minister for non-proliferation and arms control, Sergei Ryabkov, recently said Russia may be able to return to some of the many treaties shredded by the Trump administration - but not all of them.

"We'll look at other ways to advance strategic stability with Russia, even as we're very clear about the actions that they're taking ... But we have to be able to work on both fronts," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told US National Public Radio in a Tuesday interview.
Just weeks ago, the administration of US President Joe Biden reached an agreement with Moscow to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) by five years. The nuclear weapons-limiting agreement was set to expire on February 5, 2021, and the outgoing Trump administration showed essentially no interest in saving it.

Many activities will only be available to those vaccinated or with negative virus tests; app and certificates with barcodes are intended to ensure only the authorized gain access.

As country begins to reopen stores, gyms, hotels, and other venues starting next week, Israelis will need to show proof that they have been vaccinated against, or recovered from, COVID-19 before being allowed to enter some events and places.

Street-front shops, malls, markets, museums, and libraries will be open to all Israelis. But only those who have been vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 will be able to use gyms, and enter sporting and culture events, hotels, and swimming pools, showing "green pass" proof to gain access.

The coronavirus czar, Nachman Ash, said Monday that Israelis will have to use an app as proof, or print out barcoded certificates to prove their status.

Comment: Here they come. Covid-19 passports were allegedly just a part of the conspiracy theory in some people's minds, and now it looks like they are becoming reality, perhaps starting with Israel.

It looks to be that history is repeating in a drive in some quarters to implement closer monitoring of citizens.

How far will this go? Will people accept it? And either way, how far SHOULD things go?

Lockdown surrender? Sweden warns of more restrictions, gears up to close restaurants & gyms

The Swedish government, which was previously reluctant to impose tough Covid-19 restrictions, has now proposed vastly expanding its lockdown powers, as the country warns of a third wave of infections.

"It could become necessary to close down parts of Swedish society," Health Minister Lena Hallengren said at a press briefing, adding that there is "a tangible risk of a third wave of infection."


Comment: "Necessary." Wasn't it equally necessary before the first and second waves? What has changed?


"A third wave is underway in Europe. We have to be vigilant," she said.

The statement came a day after Karin Tegmark Wisell, a senior official at the nation's Public Health Agency, warned of a "very high number" of Covid-19 cases in Sweden.

More than 19,600 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the latest weekly report, published by the Swedish government on February 12.

The government already has powers to close down shopping malls. Officials now want to be able to close down all retailers, restaurants, gyms, hair salons, and swimming pools, and restrict the operations of amusement parks, zoos, museums, and art galleries. Under the plan, local authorities would be given powers to limit activities in public parks and bathhouses.

'No legal basis': Court orders Dutch government to scrap coronavirus curfew - UPDATE: Not so fast!

The Netherlands, a unique country where freedom is the most important lifestyle among all other countries in the EU, is now losing its freedom and culture due to the Corona crisis which resulted in the making of an unprecedented police state.
A Dutch court ordered the government on Tuesday to immediately scrap the night-time curfew imposed to help limit the spread of the coronavirus, ruling that it lacks any proper legal basis.

The curfew, the first in the Netherlands since World War Two, sparked several days of riots by anti-lockdown protesters when it was initially introduced on Jan. 23.

The curfew is currently set to be lifted on March 3.

A Dutch appeals court has revived the country's Covid-19 curfew just moments before it came into effect, overturning a ruling handed down hours earlier ordering the government to lift the "illegitimate" measure immediately.

A three-judge appellate panel granted an emergency injunction following a request from the Dutch government on Tuesday, agreeing to vacate the earlier order from a lower court to end the nightly curfew, DW reported. The decision came just moments before the 9pm curfew was set to take effect, with the judges scheduling a full hearing on its legality for Friday.

The appeals judges argued that they wanted to avoid what they called a "yo-yo effect," referring to public confusion around whether the curfew was still in force, adding that "in this case, the state's interests weigh more than that of Virus Truth's," the activist group that brought the initial complaint against the curfews to court - also known by its Dutch name, Viruswaarheid.

While the Dutch Justice Ministry noted it was reviewing the decision after it was handed down, Prime Minister Mark Rutte continued to insist the curfew would be enforced regardless, urging citizens to "keep respecting the curfew" even if the government's appeal failed. Later on Tuesday night, Rutte tweeted: "Curfew applies, even tonight. The coronavirus is not yet under control. It remains important to stay at home, meet as few people as possible, and adhere to all measures, such as curfews."

The successful appeal prompted a harsh rebuke from the founder of Virus Truth, Willem Engel, who has helped to organize a string of protests against lockdown policies in the Netherlands.

"You are making a big mistake," Engel told the appellate judges. "This is unacceptable. You have to explain yourself before a judge."
