Iran's President warns of 'massive' response if Israel launches even the 'tiniest invasion'

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned on Wednesday that the "tiniest invasion" by Israel would bring a "massive and harsh" response, as the region braces for potential Israeli retaliation after Iran's attack over the weekend.

Raisi spoke at an annual army parade that was relocated to a barracks north of the capital, Tehran, from its usual venue on a highway in the city's southern outskirts. Iranian authorities gave no explanation for its relocation, and state TV did not broadcast it live, as it has in previous years.

Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel over the weekend in response to an Israeli strike on Iran's embassy compound in Syria on April 1 that killed 12 people, including two Iranian generals.

Israel successfully intercepted nearly all the missiles and drones.

Comment: It would appear as though Israel has been checkmated, for now; however, it has actually been covertly attacking Iran, and other nations, for years, and so perhaps Tel Aviv will resort to its tried and tested, less conventional methods, until it can find another way to drag the West into its contrived armageddon:

US told Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries - WaPo

Kiev's refusal to acquiesce has seen tensions rise between Ukraine and its top backer, the paper claims, citing anonymous US officials

The US has on multiple occasions asked Ukraine to stop targeting Russian oil refineries with its drones, the Washington Post claims, citing anonymous American officials. Kiev has reportedly ignored those requests, thus straining relations with its top foreign provider of military assistance, the newspaper reports.

Since January, Ukraine has launched a series of long-range attacks on Russian energy facilities, including oil depots and refineries, using kamikaze drones. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has argued that the strikes have been meant to impress Kiev's Western backers amid a lack of progress on the front line.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that US Vice President Kamala Harris had met privately with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in February, telling him to refrain from targeting Russian oil refineries. President Joe Biden's administration reportedly believes that such attacks would raise global energy prices and provoke massive Russian retaliation.

Ukrainian link to Moscow terror attack 'confirmed' - Russia's security chief

Everyone involved in the March 22 massacre will be held accountable, Nikolay Patrushev has said

Russian investigators have confirmed that there is a link between the perpetrators of last month's terrorist attack in Moscow and Ukrainian nationalists, the secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev has said.

He reiterated Moscow's suspicions about Ukraine's role in the Crocus City Hall atrocity, in which over 140 people were killed.

"During the investigation, the link between the perpetrator of this terrorist attack and Ukrainian nationalists has been confirmed," Patrushev said during a meeting of the body.

Russia demands West help find Moscow terror attack masterminds
Attempts by the US and its allies to shield Kiev from the Crocus City Hall inquiry look suspicious, Vassily Nebenzia has said

Russia expects Washington and its allies to cooperate with its investigation aimed at identifying the masterminds behind the deadly Moscow terror attack that took place in March, the nation's ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, said on Friday.

The attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue, which is located just outside Moscow, claimed more than 140 lives. Four gunmen stormed the building, shooting everyone in sight before setting it on fire. A total of 11 suspects were arrested in the wake of the rampage, including the four alleged assailants.

Russian officials described the perpetrators as radical Islamists but stated that the crime may have been organized by Ukrainian security services, who used the terrorists as proxies. On Friday, Nebenzia said that the extensive effort made by the US and its allies to draw attention away from Ukraine only reinforces suspicions about Western involvement.

"Amid such relentless attempts to pin the blame on ISIS and shield Kiev at any cost... a question about Western security services' involvement in orchestrating this terrorist attack remains open," the diplomat said, referring to Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), an international terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the massacre. Western media repeatedly pointed to these claims while reporting on the incident.

Moscow has "no doubts" that Ukraine was "directly involved in this despicable and egregious crime," Russia's UN envoy said, adding that investigators already have enough evidence for such a conclusion.

Earlier in April, Russia's Investigative Committee said that a potential link between Ukrainian security services and the March attack had been uncovered. The statement cited "significant evidence" of Kiev's involvement but did not provide any specific details.

Investigators recently claimed to have found a money trail linking the alleged terrorists to Ukrainian nationalists. Russia's FSB security agency also released records of interrogations of the suspected gunmen, who claimed that they had been given instructions to flee towards the Ukrainian border after the strike.

"We expect our Western colleagues to cooperate on detaining the masterminds behind the Crocus City Hall terrorist attacks and bringing them to justice," Nebenzia said on Friday, adding that Moscow also would like to see the West aid its investigation of the Nord Stream pipelines explosions that took place in autumn 2022. After all, Western nations "unequivocally condemned" both attacks, the diplomat added.

IAEA boss: No Russian heavy weapons at Zaporozhye plant
Although there are Russian "armored vehicles and some security presence at the plant," IAEA monitors did not see any prohibited weapons, such as multiple rocket launchers, tanks, and artillery, Grossi explained.

He added that the IAEA does not have the mandate to determine which side has been attacking the facility, and argued that "indisputable evidence" is needed to establish who is responsible.
Russian UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told the Security Council [...]

"With the connivance of its Western sponsors, Ukraine is systematically carrying out irresponsible and reckless attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the adjacent territory. The Russian Armed Forces recorded and suppressed more than a hundred unmanned aerial vehicles in week.

Our Western colleagues, without noticing it themselves, spoke out today in the form of an ultimatum: "Transfer control of the Zaporizhia NPP, and then they will stop shelling it." Thus, they not only betrayed the Zelensky regime, but also actually admitted to complicity in these irresponsible attacks.
Western demands for UN to discuss Iran attack are 'hypocrisy' - Moscow
Failure to condemn the Israeli bombing of Tehran's consulate in Syria spurred the latest violence, Russia's ambassador has argued...

The UN Security Council helped give rise to Saturday's Iranian attack against Israel by hypocritically failing to take action over the illegal bombing that provoked the latest violence in the region, Russia's ambassador to the global body has claimed.
[...]
Nebenzia contrasted the council's concern over protecting Western nations and their allies with its inaction when Israel bombed Iran's consulate:
"We know very well that an attack against a diplomatic representation is a casus belli under international law. And if a Western representation had been hit, you would immediately have rained down reprisals.

"When it comes to other countries, their rights - including the right to self-defense - well, that's a different matter, as you like to say... What we're witnessing is a display of hypocrisy and double standards that is almost embarrassing to watch."
The US, UK, and France essentially declined to confirm that the basic principles of international law concerning diplomatic facilities apply equally to all states, Nebenzia said. At the same time, Israel has faced no consequences for disregarding UN resolutions, including last month's demand for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The ambassador said:
"We think it's urgent for the entire international community to undertake all efforts necessary to deescalate the situation. Otherwise, the region could be drawn into a vicious cycle of mutual attacks and violence."
Western business as usual since many years.

The new legislation further simplifies mobilization procedures and introduces new penalties for draft dodgers.

President Vladimir Zelensky signed a controversial military mobilization bill into law on Tuesday, a legislation card publicly available on the Ukrainian parliament's website indicates.

The new legislation was passed by the Verkhovna Rada earlier this month, following a drawn-out debate over its contents. In a last-minute turn of events, its provisions became even stricter than originally proposed, with a demobilization clause withdrawn.

The adopted legislation effectively means that all draftees are set to remain in the military indefinitely, with the change reportedly lobbied by Aleksandr Syrsky, the recently appointed commander-in-chief of the armed forces. A demobilization procedure is expected to be introduced in separate legislation, though it remains unclear when exactly such a bill could materialize.

The famous Roman philosopher and orator Marcus Tullius Cicero once said, "The more laws, the less justice."

This week, New York judges and lawyers appear eager to prove that the same is true for cases against Donald Trump.

After an absurd $450 million decision courtesy of Attorney General Letitia James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will bring his equally controversial criminal prosecution over hush money paid to former porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Lawyers have been scouring the civil and criminal codes for any basis to sue or prosecute Trump before the upcoming 2024 election. This week will highlight the damage done to New York's legal system because of this unhinged crusade. They've charged him with everything short of ripping a label off a mattress.

Iran on the rise: Retaliation, 'important military targets'

Map iran
The warning was on the wall. Ever since Israel attacked "out of the blue" on 1 April 2024 the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria, killing 7, including two generals, an Iranian retaliation was to be expected.

The New York Times (NYT) reports
"Iran mounted an immense aerial attack on Israel on Saturday night, launching more than 200 drones [other sources talk about 300 drones] and missiles in retaliation for a deadly Israeli airstrike in Syria two weeks ago, and marking a significant escalation in hostilities between the two regional foes."
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say there were over 300 areal threats, including some 200 drones, 100 ballistic missiles, and 30 cruise missiles. See this.

Israel and her Western friends claim that many of the drones were intercepted by IDF and the help from allied military support. The latter apparently include the UK, France, and Jordan - and most likely also US-NATO forces that have long been stationed in the region.

Nevertheless, according to several RT reports, a large-scale missile and drone attack against Israel has been a success, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said in a statement published by IRNA news agency. The Islamic Republic's military managed to "hit and destroy" some "important military targets," it added, without providing any further details.

Comment: Decades in the making, Israel has left no doubts about its global trajectory, its ability to entangle Western leadership, its agenda. In contrast, Iran plays it close to the vest.

Cruise Missle

The missiles of April

Iran's retaliatory attack on Israel will go down in history as one of the greatest victories of this century.

I've been writing about Iran for more than two decades. In 2005, I made a trip to Iran to ascertain the "ground truth" about that nation, a truth which I then incorporated into a book, Target Iran, laying out the US-Israeli collaboration to craft a justification for a military attack on Iran designed to bring down its theocratic government. I followed this book up with another, Dealbreaker, in 2018, which brought this US-Israeli effort up to date.

Back in November 2006, in an address to Columbia University's School of International Relations, I underscored that the United States would never abandon my "good friend" Israel until, of course, we did. What could precipitate such an action, I asked? I noted that Israel was a nation drunk of hubris and power, and unless the United States could find a way to remove the keys from the ignition of the bus Israel was navigating toward the abyss, we would not join Israel in its lemming-like suicidal journey.

IAEA boss: No Russian heavy weapons at Zaporozhye plant

Europe's largest nuclear power plant was attacked by drones last week

Russia has not stationed heavy weapons at Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi told reporters on Monday.

Moscow and Kiev have accused each other of shelling Europe's largest nuclear plant, which sits close to the front line. Ukraine and its Western backers have also accused Moscow of using the facility as cover for its troops.

"There is no heavy weaponry there," Grossi told reporters, after a UN Security Council meeting dedicated to the renewed strikes on the plant.

Although there are Russian "armored vehicles and some security presence at the plant," IAEA monitors did not see any prohibited weapons, such as multiple rocket launchers, tanks, and artillery, Grossi explained.

Good morning begins with "peaceful atom":

Permanent Representative of Russia Nebenzya - at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant:

"With the connivance of its Western sponsors, Ukraine is systematically carrying out irresponsible and reckless attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the adjacent territory. The Russian Armed Forces recorded and suppressed more than a hundred unmanned aerial vehicles in week.

Thus, they not only betrayed the Zelensky regime, but also actually admitted to complicity in these irresponsible attacks.

I would like to believe that our European neighbors have not yet atrophied the instinct of self-preservation and that they will not jeopardize the lives and health of their own citizens. After all, if Ukrainian attacks on the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant continue, no one can completely rule out a nuclear disaster on a regional and even global scale."

Mobilizing for defeat: The Zelensky regime insists more Ukrainians must die before it's all over

Kiev's new effort to scoop up more bodies for the front is a response to looming catastrophe - and a catastrophe in itself...

Ukraine's situation is extremely precarious, if you want to put it optimistically. A more realistic term is "catastrophic." The country faces steady, accelerating advances of Russian forces that are well-motivated and trained and superior in quantity and equipment. Even Ukraine's commander-in-chief has admitted that "the situation on the eastern front has significantly worsened in recent days." A massive understatement but still proof that things are even worse.

We also know - from Ukrainian polls - that ever more Ukrainians are open to ending the war by making concessions. Yet the Zelensky regime is doubling down. Instead of entering serious negotiations - the kind where you adjust your aims to your losses so as to avoid even greater ones - it is seeking to throw more lives into a war that has become a meatgrinder for Ukrainian troops.

That is the main purpose of a new mobilization law that has just passed the Ukrainian parliament. (In addition, President Zelensky has already signed off on additional measures that will be integrated into the new law once he signs that as well. In essence, though, this is one integrated bundle, which many Ukrainians and outside observers refer to as one and the same law, as will be done here.)

Russia tells Israel to condemn Ukraine

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the remark after West Jerusalem's envoy urged Moscow to denounce Iranian strikes...

Russia does not feel obliged to condemn Iran's missile and drone strikes on Israel on Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said. The diplomat explained that West Jerusalem has never denounced Ukraine's attacks on Russian civilians.

According to Israeli estimates, Tehran's latest show of force involved hundreds of rockets and missiles, as well as kamikaze UAVs. Iran announced that the strike was in response to the "Zionist regime's numerous crimes, including the attack on the consular section of Iran's Embassy in Damascus."

A presumed Israeli airstrike hit Iran's consulate in Damascus, Syria on April 1, killing seven officers of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, including two high-ranking generals. Iranian state media has claimed that a number of Israeli military facilities were struck in Saturday's attack. The Israeli military, in turn, has insisted that its air defenses shot down nearly all of the incoming projectiles.
