Well said! I completely agree. In my experience, people DO help each other in times of crisis. I found the video to be rather dire and pessimistic. The percentage of any population that participates in the examples given in the video is minuscule. To assume more people would act that way under other circumstances is a leap of logic.

I think it depends on the type of people involved, and on the level of interference from outside forces, but generally, yes.
Collectives tend to have better chances of survival than individuals. This may not be a universal truth, but it's pretty close to being so. I think there's a reason people feel bad when expelled from a group. I think the desire to be part of a collective is primal stuff, baked into the human code, part of the early roots of compassion.
Also, when food is scarce, people have proven to be pretty clever. I know a lot of people who have studied farming technologies. Apparently, a garden plot the size of a small house footprint can realize enough potatoes to feed a large family a full serving every day for a year. Working as a group in an intelligent manner means that food and shelter and survival are real possibilities. Cans of beans only last so long. Eventually, you have to figure out what to do next, and unless you live in the jungle where food is hanging from the trees, survival means community.
Of course, some collectives will form around the principle of feeding on weaker groups, and thus we get the Vikings versus Fishing Villages pattern, which over time gives rise to standing armies, walled communities, taxation and government. But all of that stuff is a lot further down the road than the immediate mob madness the author of this film is talking about.
When we look at war zones, I think the natural tendency for people to work together is hampered by psychopaths riding in Hummers, or CIA operatives dressed as insurgents. -And the various other types who seek to benefit from the patterns Naomi Klein pointed out via Disaster Capitalism. But that's also a different kettle of fish, I think.
The author of this film was talking about the base population turning insane and mob rule taking over, and *that* being the focus of concern, the thing we need to defend ourselves against. While I don't think population-wide flashes of fear can be ignored, I *do* think such problems are likely to be comparatively small in the long run. How long can a person remain in a frenzy before the energy is spent and the Hulk needs to sleep? (And the Frontal Lobe reconnects.)

The National Security State has geared itself to liquidating the population in a very controlled manner, so I strongly suspect we won't have the option to go too terribly nuts when things get rolling and it's time to collect us all for our parts.
My thought is that the real challenge will be evading the military for the period of time that they are able to continue functioning. Slipping through the cracks sounds pretty difficult.
And the big challenge after (or perhaps *instead* of) that, if and when any of us manage it, will be understanding the rules of a weird new world and how to survive there. Guarding my cans of beans from the dude across the street is pretty low on my to do list. I'm far more apt to share than anything else.

I have some doubts...
Just look at what happens not during a short time catastrophe as Katrina was...look at long term catastrophes like wars(AfPak, Irak, Yemen etc), Haïti when the whole infrastructure collapses, It's not a pretty picture. Sure you will find
some people helping out to others, some people uniting but for the most part it's not like that. Why? Because for all sorts of reasons among which the drugs in food, drinks, medication, among which the massive brainwashing conditionning of people who become truly sheeple...How can you possibly explain people still going to cast a ballot if they are not utterly conditionned to do so?
If you have a twisted mind you are going to ask what does this guy mean when he says be prepared?
Does he mean buy grenades, missiles, guns tons of amunitions, build a bunker?
This isn't what I understood, what I understand but rather:
Make an island of yourself that the waves(of samsara) cannot flood...
You see I understand that it's high time to detox our mind body soul spirit and if we have started doing it develop the
practice more and more. Don't be a human looking being, be a human being.
And if you have to be trampled to death so be it die in peace in joy because you have not been the one trampling others to death.

Russia has been there, done that
Look it up. Russia collapsed, many people died, (and because of this chaos) some people got filthy rich. In the US things are the other way around; because of people getting filthy rich lots of people will die.

Fear your neighbors? When he says, "Be prepared" what, oh deary me, can he possibly be suggesting?
Here's a thought; animalistic behavior, as he puts it, which stems from a short circuited frontal lobe and leads to crazed rushes and panicked mob frenzies, may certainly erupt in a short term reality, but mobs burn out fast. The long haul, the weeks and months after the point of collapse, are what I'm more interested in studying. And we have several excellent examples.
Did we see legions of marauding zombie people hacking each other to bits after Katrina?
No. We saw people pulling together to help each other out. We DID, however, see armed goons from Blackwater and the national guard acting like psychopaths.
A personal anecdote. . .
The last power outage I experienced hit my whole community and left the town dark for a couple of days. People, smart people I'd not thought would worry about such things, nervously compared notes on self defense, as though faceless gangs of hooligans would be appearing any moment. I confess, I found myself worrying about this as well before I snapped out of it.
What *really* happened was that people pulled together and new support systems rapidly formed. Remember; society is a result of humans, not the other way around. If you knock down society, then we have the built-in desire, like hunger, to form a new one. We seek to make friends, to offer value to a group. We know the value in caring for others. We know compassion.
Certainly, we have been drugged and programmed and we have lost focus, but in a collapse, TVs and cell phones will stop working, and people will actually have their minds clear at least a little bit.
Being worried and being aware of the worst isn't wrong. But I suspect the kind of fear being touted in this video is more programming designed to make us stop trusting ourselves and each other, and to allow our rights to be trampled; to allow us to look the other way when the police and military contractors start beating up regular folks on the street.
