Tartu County Farmers' Union announced that there was a catastrophe in grain farming this year. 21 pct of the crop is destroyed by the rain, half of the potato harvest is rotten.
The study made by the union showed that by today 36 pct of the crop grown on 32,000 hectares and 11 pct of the potatoes on 450 hectares are harvested. 9,400 hectares, which is 21 pct of the sowed crop, is rotten, aripaev.ee writes.
The chairman of the union, Jaan Sõrra said that 60 pct of the crop is still not harvested and the weather forecast doesn't allow it in the future at all.
He added that the farmers are depressed and do not imagine how to pay leases and bank loans.
