My little family is one of those low income, no car families that you speak of. And I had just said something about this to my mother the other day. Our town has buses, but the routes do not include the discount stores. We have a Sam's and a Food For Less in town, but both require quite a hike from the bus paths. However high priced local stores are readily available along almost every bus route. It's a shame too, because the money we would save on groceries would just about pay for a car.
