An Eagle military aircraft has crashed without exploding near Čenta on the road to Sakule, in Vojvodina, B92 understands. The pilot was able to eject, and no bystanders are believed to have been injured in the incident. The Serbian Airforce plane came down at around 11:00 CET near Zrenjanin. No other details about the accident are known as yet. The airforce and the Serbian Army's Anti-Aircraft Defense has 33 Eagle aircraft in four basic combat, training and reconnaissance versions. The defense ministry confirmed that the aircraft involved had been an Eagles J-22, and that the pilot had ejected in time and was safe.
B92 has learned that the pilot suffered injuries and is being treated at the Military Medical Academy, though his injuries are not said to be life-threatening. The Airforce and the Serbian Army's Anti-Aircraft Defense have 33 Eagle aircraft in four basic combat, training and reconnaissance versions. An eyewitness told B92 that he "first heard an explosion, and knew something had fallen. Later, I saw a parachute," adding that he saw the pilot fall. Opovo Municipal President Milorad Soldatović said that a "medical team is at the scene and the police have secured the area." The Civil Air Travel Directorate stated that an Eagle aircraft had disappeared from their radar, adding that while such accidents were not under its jurisdiction, it would assist the Defense Ministry if required. The Defense Ministry informed Tanjug that it looked as if the pilot had realized that there were technical problems with the aircraft and had therefore been able to eject in time. |
