A leading representative of the scientific study of "DNA genealogy", doctor of chemical sciences, Professor of Moscow State University and Harvard University, Anatole Klyosov, gave an exclusive interview to KM.RU, in which he refuted claims about genetic differences between Russians and Ukrainians.

Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians are a set of the same genera

The nationalist school of west Ukraine promotes the idea that Russians and Ukrainians are closely related people. This view is "based" on the fact that although once a long time ago the Russians resettled from the territory of modern Ukraine, then allegedly heavily intermingled with the representatives of the Mongoloid race and ceased to be Slavs.

There is practically no truth in this statement. Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians are a set of the same genera, and are the same people from a genetic point of view. The origins they have also almost the same. The ethnic Russians are of three main kinds: R1a, I and N. The haplogroup R1a are 48% of Russians and 45% of Ukrainians. Haplogroup I are 22% Russians and 24% Ukrainians. Depending on the sample, these figures vary up to 4%.

A more noticeable difference between our nations is observed in haplogroup N, which is common in Northern Europe. It, in particular, includes the part of Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians, some Russians and Balts in the North-East of the Russian Federation. Haplogroup N are 14% Russians, 10% Belarusians, while in Ukraine this figure varies from 1 to 4%. The noticeable difference is due to the fact that Ukraine is South from the Baltics, Russia and Belarus. If we take the Belarusians, then R1a are 52%, I - 22-24%, and N, as I said, 10%.

I want to emphasize that when I say "Ukrainians", I mean residents of the Western regions. Moreover, we especially took data in Lviv. Of course, we have a somewhat different culture, different language, but not origin.

Assertions about the differences between our people are part of an information war

There is such a thing as the "tree of haplotypes". It is formed in different ways. First option: specialists in population genetics go to places, go to the cities and villages with a test tube. Scientists collect saliva or blood from members of particular ethnic categories that is determined by their DNA. Data from academic science is considered more correct. The second option is when people send their samples to a commercial organization. Science usually eschews such data, but in the end, the results obtained by scientists and commercial companies are about the same, and often just the same.

Now, we have modelled the tree of the haplotypes to include data for the Russian, Ukrainians and Belarusians. We have done DNA analysis on 111 parameters (markers of Y-chromosome DNA), whereas the usual "academic" analysis only takes into account 17 parameters or less, often 7-8 parameters. We tracked such details, in which researchers usually don't go for. We compared haplogroup of our peoples and found that were coincidences everywhere. Again, the difference is only in haplogroup N. It is entirely due to geographical reasons.

Thus, the question about the common origin of Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians is closed, even though I am familiar with the "works" that deny this fact. They gave me a great scientific and social disturbance. These "scientists" are nonsense and distort objective data. I consider such activities as part of the information war.
