During a meeting with King Hussein of Jordan, President Putin described how the Russian was shot down by a Turkish F-16 at least 1km inside Syrian territory, and said that it never threatened the Turkish republic. The pilots of the plane were engaged in a fight against international terrorism and the attack on the Russian jet was a "stab in the back" by Turkey, Putin said.

Putin stated that it is well known that oil and other products stolen by ISIS have been shipped directly to Turkey. Together with their American partners, Putin said that Russia had co-ordinated the fight against terrorists, and Turkey had ostensibly signed up to this agreement. Yet Turkey has been using its armed forces to protect the ISIS terrorist group. Now it becomes clear, Putin said, why ISIS is able to carry out such widespread attacks, even into the heart of Europe.

The shooting down of the Russian jet by the Turkish air force will have serious consequences for Russian-Turkish relations. Instead of immediately establishing necessary communications with the Russian government, the Turkish authorities instead contacted their NATO partners, as if Russia had shot down a Turkish jet. "Does Turkey want NATO to support terrorism?" Putin asked.

Russia has always been sensitive to the interests of regional powers, but it will never allow crimes like the one that occurred today to go unpunished, Putin asserted.
