Dick Cheney will stand trial for war crimes, International Court Judge says

A former judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) said former US Vice President Dick Cheney should - and eventually will - stand trial for war crimes for his role in the Iraq War.

- "Some of us have long thought that Cheney and a number of CIA agents who did what they did in those so-called black holes should appear before the International Criminal Court" (ICC) - Thomas Buergenthal said in an interview with Newsweek.

Buergenthal, 81, served as a judge at the ICJ - the main judicial arm of the United Nations - for 10 years before retiring in 2010.The ICJ, unlike the ICC, has no jurisdiction to try individuals accused of war crimes or crimes against humanity. As the ICJ is not a criminal court, it does not have a prosecutor able to initiate such proceedings.

Buergenthal was born in the former Czechoslovakia and survived the Auschwitz concentration camp as a boy. He is now a US citizen and a professor of law at George Washington University in Washington, DC. "We (in the United States) could have tried them ourselves," Buergenthal said of Cheney and others. "I voted for Obama, but I think he made a great mistake when he decided not to instigate legal proceedings against some of these people. I think - yes - that it will happen."

As for Cheney's superior for eight years, Buergenthal dismissed former president George W. Bush as "an ignorant person who wanted to show his mother he could do things his father couldn't." Buergenthal said Richard Nixon, whose administration Cheney served in during the 1970s, was "more intelligent. I don't think Nixon would have got involved in Iraq."

I'll take the other side of that bet.

There is no question in my mind that he (and hundreds, if not thousands, of others (politicians, officials, judges, lawyers, and even lower-level individuals within many gov't agencies)) SHOULD be tried for many things (including war crimes) relating to US foreign policy and the establishment of the US police/surveillance state.

However, the US gov't will not allow (by force, if necessary) this to happen, especially by a non-US jurisdiction, because of the precedent it would set. Were current US gov't officials to allow such a precedent, they know that virtually all of them would also end up on trial for their actions while in office.

Hell, we've got CIA scum who kidnapped an innocent man (in Italy? through it?) and were charged (I'm sure) and tried (I believe) 'in absentia' (65/35) and so far as I'm aware, nothing's happened to them.

The same goes for the CIA Scumbag responsible for the 2011? Mumbai (f/k/a, Bombay*) Massacre. who managed not only to screw up his mission so badly that he left proof of it all over, AND got arrested for his primary role, BUT he also required the US to pay 'ransom' (wrong word) to our co-conspirators in that event, to get him out of there. Certainly, India shant be on that asshole's travel itinerary in this life. As to the next: See, Cheney, Dick.

dick cheney's double is going to face war crimes in lieu of george bush. sr. and jr., donald rumsfeld, bill and hillary clinton, henry kissinger, brzezinski, kerry, mccain, graham, nuland, rice, powell and all the rest. it's just another scam people. to make america look worthy of being taken over by the cabal in disguise as the united nations. when in fact it is the cabal who directed these half men and half women. and in fact it was done to benefit royal europe. when in fact, you are all coming down. when your story can be spun no more. when you have run out of lies, scams and artful traps. just because you bring in jade helm doesn't mean there will be any takers.
