A New Jersey woman intentionally burned her baby girl alive in the middle of a quiet street, authorities said.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Pemberton has been charged with the infant's murder.

Witnesses to the horrific scene claimed a young woman poured a flammable liquid on the defenseless newborn girl about 11 p.m. on Friday, and then set her ablaze in the middle of the road in the Pemberton Township.

"Her demeanor was calm," neighbor David Joseph told the Burlington County Times. "She knew what she was doing."

The woman, later identified as Dorvilier, used a water bottle to douse the flames, and tried to claim she was burning dog waste, the stunned neighbor said.

Police hurried to the small township about 30 miles east of Philadelphia where they found Dorvilier and the smoldering baby.

Dorvilier was hospitalized at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, and is now in custody at Burlington County Correction and Work Release Center on $500,000 bond, NBC 10 reported.

Her horribly burned child went by helicopter to St. Christopher's Children's Hospital and died overnight, authorities said.

"We thought, hopefully, it would fight," Joseph told Burlington County Times. "It was fighting all night."
