A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.
Almost all the private wealth of the UK is held by the Grannies and Grandads ,representing the lifetime savings to keep them secure and to pass on...
Considering the level of rationality displayed on Western / EU side lately, I think they will do it anyway. Which only hastens their demise.

So B.O. is going to ship 4,000 American young men and women over ASAP to West Africa to 'fight' ebola, eh?
Apparently they will be building ebola dispersal, er, excuse me, treatment centers and doing 'management support' (among lots of 'other' nice things, I am sure.)
'Managing' exactly what, though, I ask?
Most likely, 'managing' all those terribly troublesome natural resources that West Africa is so rich in (and that China had its eyes and fingers on until this hyper-convenient ebola outbreak got in the way.)
I am sure the West Africans will be quite relieved to have all those pesky resources taken off their hands (at near give-away prices, of course) by well-connected and positioned corporations from the occupying, er, excuse me, the helpful Americans.
Yes, the West Africans can rejoice and "Send the word, send the word over there, that the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming!" (Apologies to George M. Cohan.)
Thankfully, we can all now rest assured that these terribly afflicted Africans will be treated in an exemplary fashion by the US military, as usual. Especially by the young, testosterone-laden male soldiers who will undoubtedly treat the locals with respect, love and kindness, like they always do the indigenous peoples they slaughter, er, excuse me, assist in times of crisis.
Maybe, though, the West Africans might want to consider a few other lyrics by Mr Cohan as well. Like these:
"So prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word to beware -
We'll be over, we're coming over,
And we won't come back till it's over, over there."
Prescient, no doubt. And quite true.
These West Africans should most certainly say a prayer and beware, because when Uncle Shmuel comes offering assistance, especially in the guise of the military, it's over. It's over big time.
(National sovereignty, resource control, and hope, that is.)
There are humanitarian aid organisations that have been set up long ago and whose role is to deal with humanitarian crisis around the world. They are skilled in crisis manangement and have international donors.
But the US has greatly reduced its support for these organisations and instead uses the army for this. Crisis are seen as opportunities for furthering of US interests, for regime change, for resource grabs, for furthering of corporate interests, for military bases, for eliminating annoying “trouble makers” in crisis countries under the cover of having green men running around (something that is harder to conseal if it is nurses and doctors running around).
For the US pathocrats humanitarian aid is never about the people, but are opportunities for geopolitical goals.
In contrast China, Russia and Cuba and perhaps more have sent healthcare workers.
In Ukraine, Russia has sent humanitarian aid in terms of food, blankets, generators etc, whereas the US has given weapons to the Junta regime, so that it can more effectively kill off those pesky people in the Donbass, who refuse to submit to a fascist rule.
Books such as "Confessions of an economic hitman" and "Shock Doctrine" are recommended for further readings.
@Aeneas:
This is to inform you:
There are no such 'humanitarian aid organizations that have been set up long ago and whose role is to deal with humanitarian crisis around the world'....this is a kind of wishful thought of people who are wishful thinkers such as yourself. Santa and the Easter bunny will soon be here!
There are HOWEVER, numerous LARGE and PERVASIVE criminal front organizations that launder (wash and dry and press) and make clean-looking (stains all gone) wealth for the criminals who control them.
Also please note: It is the role of the unconscious, or very marginally conscious human to mimic or copy with that minimal consciousness what he/she so dimly perceives to be truth or goodness. Evil Ipure evil) appears to such dimwits, to be good (because evil specializes in looking good) and so it (evil) is copied and transmitted and participated in and magnified faithfully over and over and over again. Very very few people actually oppose evil because it takes enormous strength and courage and -uhhh- HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS (developed awareness of an actual higher magnitude than most humans ordinarily possess). Particularly in this current technology and control-of-all-things-via-technology obsessed era. We are living on sinking ship with no ability to 'swim', so-to-speak. Better learn!
This fact is EXACTLY why I am so hard on Sott and every other website I comment at. To Sott's credit, I have not been booted off (here) yet for being so frequently haughty, opinionated and/or disagreeable. That is good, but doesn't equal swimming, yet. Maybe someday it will, or maybe it won't...

It is also true that "...Very very few people actually oppose evil because it takes enormous strength and courage and -uhhh- HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS (developed awareness of an actual higher magnitude than most humans ordinarily possess)", but everyone has to start somewhere. Higher consciousness does not just appear and is not given. One has to work for it and the first step is to get to know one's own machine. Litlle by little change can start to take place but it doesn't happen overnight.

Why are we creating a class of part time soldier with the number of full time soldiers that are currently being supported by the taxpayer??? Does this strike anyone else as ridiculous. Is there no end to the dollars that we must spend on the defense department?
"The World Health Organization (WHO) said Wednesday that 4,493 people have died from the current Ebola outbreak, and as of October 12, there have been 8,997 confirmed and probable cases of the disease in seven different countries. The WHO is also predicting that by the end of the week, there will be over 4,500 Ebola deaths and over 9,000 cases of the deadly disease"
The statement sounds harmless enough but really! - what they are saying is that they know the exact number, 8,997 and implying a level of control / understanding ... 9,000 by the end of the week
It's just a non-stop drip feed of misinformation
Did anyone notice that in this article Obama never actually says that he's sending more troops to West Africa to help people in the fight against Ebola? And why would the Department of Homeland Security need the use of the National Guard and reserve troops to respond to the Ebola crisis?
