A St. Louis man who was filming a street assault on a woman was set upon by her attackers, demanding he quit filming them, until his girlfriend dispersed them with pepper spray, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Andrew Doty, a 27-year-old freelance editor, was strolling with his girlfriend when he came across three men beating a woman in the back seat of a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Doty took out his cell phone and began filming the encounter, as one man walked around the car, pointing and demanding, "Put that up."

According to Doty, "We knew someone was being attacked, and I immediately started filming. It was just something we felt obligated to do in the moment."

Refusing to to stop filming, Doty told the men, "You guys need to sort your shit out, and get it out of here. That's it. Stop fighting on the street."

While one man continued to hit the woman, another kept telling Doty to "Put that up," while bumping up against him, making Doty move backwards.

What followed was an obscene tirade with both Doty and one of the attackers warning each other, before the man and one of his companions turned back to the car.

Seeing Doty following them and resume filming the assault, the two men turned and ran at him, swinging and grabbing at the phone as Doty shoved it in his pocket - at which point the video goes black - but still running and recording the audio.

Midway through the struggle one of the attackers is heard screaming after Doty's girlfriend pepper-sprayed him.

As the men are seen retreating, Doty can be heard saying, "Thanks hon," before other bystanders appear asking if he is okay and stating that the police have been called.

Police arrested two of the men, identified as brothers, on Friday, with the third man still being sought.

The woman shown being attacked in the video has refused to press charges or cooperate with authorities, according to police.

Said Doty, ""I knew that as long as I kept asserting myself and letting them know that I wasn't scared of them, that I was in control of my own body.I just kept filming because I felt that was the important thing to do in the moment."
