The baby had 29 bones broken in his body when taken to the hospital for examination by his mother Krishna Rittenhouse.
The father, Jordan Rittenhouse, a Navy sailor, has been charged with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor for allegedly causing the injuries to his son, reports The Day.
A doctor treating the baby said it is the "worst case of serious physical injury she has seen in her career."
Doctors discovered the child had multiple rib fractures upon examination. The fractures were in various states of healing, showing abuse over time.
Some of the injuries were consistent with squeezing, while others were not.
Dr. Andrea Asnes told police "she was surprised the victim was alive," according to the police warrant.
Krishna denied harming the child to police and told them the child may have brittle bone disease, as she suffers from calcium and iron deficiencies. The theory was found unlikely by an assessment team.
Jordan was interviewed by police and denied harming his child, even as he admitted to being under a great deal of stress to complete school while performing at a high level.
"I may have squeezed him at some point, but I am afraid for my career. I'm just getting started in my career," Jordan later said, according to the warrant.
Upon a second interview, Jordan admitted that he squeezed the victim at least 16 times, to make him stop crying, reports The New York Daily News.
After one squeezing instance, Jordan was concerned he may have punctured a lung.
Jordan also admitted to making the infant bleed on one occasion after jamming a bottle into his mouth.
Jordan Rittenhouse is being held on a $500,000 cash bond. His next court date is scheduled for September 10, 2014.
