Temperatures in Oklahoma City climbed only to 72 degrees Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The record for the coolest high temperature for July 16 in Oklahoma City was 74 degrees, set in 1967, according to National Weather Service records.

The National Weather Service recorded a low of 49 degrees at Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, breaking the old record of 50 degrees set in 1976.

Forecasters say Mobile, Alabama, has broken a 128-year-old record with a low temperature of 64 F, one degree cooler than the low of 65 F set in 1886. Meanwhile, Huntsville tied a record low for the date of 59 degrees set in 1945. In fact, temperatures ranged from the mid- to upper 50s across north Alabama.

Toledo, Ohio: July cold challenges 118-year-old record - Feels like mid-October

Temperatures were in the middle 60s through the day on Wednesday, which likely sent it to the record books for the cold... The coldest high temperature ever recorded on this date was 70 degrees back in 1896. If Wednesday stays at or below 67 degrees, that will make July 16th the coldest July day Toledo has had since 2003. The average high this time of the year is 85 degrees. The average high does not fall to the middle 60s until the middle of October.

The record-breaking trend continued on Wednesday morning when Joplin, Missouri tied its all-time July record low of 50 degrees. Record lows were broken from Minnesota to Mississippi to West Virginia. Temperatures even dipped into the mid 30s in parts of northern Minnesota.

High temperatures were only in the 60s and 70s from the Plains to the interior Northeast on Wednesday afternoon. Goodland, Kansas only saw a high of 62 degrees, breaking their previous record by 10 degrees.

Temperatures across northern Minnesota were 6 to 11 degrees cooler than they were Tuesday morning, WCCO reports. This blast of chilly weather was cold enough to set a record low in International Falls.
