The deputy was serving court documents to a resident in the 3000 block of Eucalyptus Avenue. Around 2 p.m., a dog allegedly came at him "aggressively."
Fearing for his safety, the deputy pulled out his gun but, instead of doing whatever he was planning on doing, shot himself in the leg in the process. He was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Notably, the dog did not bite the deputy, nor was the dog injured. In fact, the sound of the gunshot actually calmed the dog.
Police will not be pursuing any further action against the dog or its owner, who was not the individual the deputy had set out to present with the court documents.
The deputy has not been named.
As noted by Raw Story, the video below shows the dog right after the shooting occurred. He seems pretty calm.
