© UnknownTrees were uprooted after a storm went through Muskegon County, Michigan.
A string of strong spring thunderstorms went through several West Michigan counties, causing damage and knocking out power to thousands of people.

Various rescue crews are working to clear fallen trees and remove power lines from the road after straight line winds caused damage to many areas in Muskegon, Newaygo, northern Kent and Montcalm county.

Hundreds of viewers reported damage at their homes and at area businesses. Several viewers told 24 Hour News 8 they saw pieces of roofs in the street after strong winds blew parts off of buildings.

Officials in Kent City are at the high school working to fix the roof damage. They hope to have all the damage fixed by Monday, but were not sure if that could happen.

The town of Bailey was like a lot of small towns in West Michigan; there were tree limbs all over the roads and multiple power lines down. The roof of small garages were blown off and sheds and small playgrounds were destroyed by winds.

Widespread damage along M-37 is so extensive that the Michigan Department of Transportation has closed M-37 south of 120th in Grant to the connection of M-46 near Casnovia.

The Muskegon Fire Department is asking residents to stay in their homes due to multiple power lines on the ground as a result of the storm. They say do not attempt to touch or remove any lines because they may be energized.

Two men were trapped in a golf cart after a tree fell on the golf cart in Plainfield Township.

As of 8:00 a.m., over 70,000 customers are without power in West Michigan.
