Despite its earlier vow to act in "a spirit of openness," the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has
intervened in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) court case
brought by
Wired reporter Kevin Paulsen aimed at
releasing Aaron Swartz's Secret Service file. Paulsen has blasted MIT's move to block the release, which they justified by citing the need to protect MIT personnel even though records are routinely redacted, as unprecedented, noting neither he nor his lawyer has ever seen a non-governmental party argue for the right to
interfere in a FOIA release of government documents.
"The mission of MIT is to advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century...The Institute is committed to generating, disseminating, and preserving knowledge, and to working with others to bring this knowledge to bear on the world's great challenges."
Common Dreams was the first place I went, when I was learning to operate on the internet political and cultural blog-o-sphere.
I was attempting to share my own personal story about organic industry lies and corruption, and the abuse of a very thrifty, locally helpful and honest traditional family farmer (me) by Organic Valley (a giant business monopoly or cartel); this since I had had no help from anyone fighting OV through the 'legal due process system' {sic}. I was honestly hoping to stir and secure some public support and awareness, in this absence of any legal and professional assistance. I can tell you that I hate Organic Valley and its lying thieving operators with a passion second to none! They are basically an organic {again, sic} Monsanto. The whole 'certified organic' segment of agriculture is now fully perverted and coopted to work for more wealth for the few and to abuse the many, whose choices are restricted completely and insanely. SLAVES.
So anyway: My ingenuous comments and honest cries of protest were altered, deleted by the Common Dreams team routinely. Why? Being a neophyte, and still pursuing actual justice, I was like whaaaa? I persisted in my commenting 'style' (and my subject matter) and was abruptly banned at CD. End of that story.
There is a protection racket that exists, a giant security net for the perverted human hierarchy of total psychopathy that has formed over the centuries and people are trained to maintain that net constantly by hurting and censoring (and killing of course in numerous ways) those who would speak and protest freely and openly. For this participation such people (as are trained) get paid very handsomely, relatively speaking. High salaries and executive positions are for being a reliable part of the protection net (for still higher placed others--the billionaires) and not for any real production. Real production is done exclusively by slaves.
Colleges like MIT (or any college, really) are for training and rewarding professional psychopath (billionaire) assistants and that is all they do.
