LAURA KNIGHT-JADCZYK AND JOE QUINN
Since the 9/11 attacks, no book has provided a satisfactory answer as to WHY the attacks occurred and who was ultimately responsible for carrying them out - until now.
Why ask why? As the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
So obviously, selling off the assets allows the govt to raise money and sell off their problems. It's a win-win, just not for the students and what is commonly considered to be an 'education'. No one can then blame the political puppets, and the private sector can just blame the students. As usual, the reasons for the degradation of the system isn't mentioned in the report, just that 38% had to repeat a grade... but why? That should be talked about, but that isn't a comfortable subject, thus the protests. Money is usually the excuse, but rarely the problem. Is it greed?

Because they were protesting most of last year. The movements leaders have lost the public support they had originally due to their disinterest in preventing the substantial public destruction that occurs after each march. As usual, the foreign press does not have a full understanding of what is going on. These same protesters are responsible for vandalizing, stealing from and even setting fire to public schools all in the name of education reform. Yes, the system needs structural reform, yes it is not happening, yes even the "socialists" over 20 years did little to reform the system. It is the public system that is in a bad state as even the poor strive for credits and discounts to get their kids into a private school. The ghost of Pino has little to do with what is going on now with this issue especially as the previous left coalition leadership and even certain communist leaders that led the student protests have direct or indirect interests in the private system. Being from the States and watching everything that has gone on, the police here have been extremely reserved using tear gas and water cannons only when rocks and molotov cocktails start being thrown and public and private property being damaged. Those arrested are released in hours and free to participate in the next round of peaceful or violent protests.
Why is that butcher Pinochet's policies still in effect?
