Irish Actor Liam Neeson Questions his Faith, Considers Converting to Islam

Irish actor Liam Neeson has revealed he is considering giving up on his Catholic faith and converting to Islam.

The Hollywood star, 59, was recently filming in Turkish city Istanbul and became fascinated with the Muslim faith during his stay.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: "The Call to Prayer happens five times a day and for the first week it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit and it's the most beautiful, beautiful thing.

"There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim."

So he won't be copying Madonna and taking an interest in Kabbalah or following in Tom Cruise's footsteps and become a Scientologist?

The actor was raised in Northern Ireland as a Catholic altar boy and was named after his local priest.

On his Catholic beliefs, he said: "I was reared a Catholic but I think every day we ask ourselves, not consciously, what are we doing on this planet? What's it all about?

"I'm constantly reading books on God or the absence of God and atheism."

Why such discrimination against Islam?

I thought sott.net was a forum of knowledgeable and open minded people. I failed to understand the bias against religion, especially Islam. How many of you have tried to understand Islam in a neutral and unbiased manner? Don't give me that propaganda rhetoric about terrorism and Islam. Islam has nothing to do with it.

Everybody has the right to their opinion but I believe the sheeople are on the other side who don't believe in God or Religion. Liam Nesson has made a choice on his free will and it should be accepted. One should study the reason behind Mr Nesson's decision and not indulge in mindless criticism without any reason.

I fail to see it, myself. There is no bias against religion, this web site is just trying to point out distortion, manipulation and control, as well as the reality around us. And we all know any so-called 'association' Islam has with 'terrorism' is pure made-up humbug.... just like the 'war on terror' nonsence. A means to an end, nothing more.

This article, I think not only supports Islam, but supports the idea that people have the right to question how relevant the religion they were brought up with is to them (the one they were programmed with) and change it if they feel the need.

Some people believe all monotheist religions are equally suspect and therefore a bad idea. But then, I'm not sure if you are refering to this web site (which publishes articles of their own as well as those written elsewhere), the article concerned, or some of the comments posted by readers.

Perhaps you have a very emotive reaction to the concept of religion?

I am not against this website, I am against derogatory comments made about religion and Islam. Islam is about peace and harmony but many people (including many of it followers) fail to understand Islam's basic principle's.

Did Islam or religion cause World war I or World War II? Will Islam cause the coming World War III?.

Look at human history and face it, religion or no religion, believe in God or believe in no God , War is inevitable. Humans can not do without war.There are only few periods of human history without war. So believe in what ever you like but leave Islam alone.

Malik, all religion today is corrupt and run by psychopaths. SOTT has demonstrated that over and over again (if you don't know that yet, then you have a lot of reading ahead of you). The original purpose of religion was so that one could maintain a spiritual way of life in order to come closer to the Creator or God, or whatever name you choose to use for the Divine. However historically, whenever groups of people came together in an attempt to achieve this, they were always taken over by psychopathic individuals for the purpose of control. And that is most certainly the case today!
