"We have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction."

Taurine Promotes Axonal Sprouting Through Mitochondrial Improvement in Stroke [Link]
Results
TAU treatment significantly recovered the motor function of focal cerebral cortical ischemic mice. And TAU promoted axonal sprouting. It was also observed that TAU enhanced mtDNA content, increased the levels of Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PCG-1a) and Transcription factor A of mitochondria (TFAM).

Self-experimenters at raypeatforum.com have used 15g taurine per day for a month to build up large stores. Personally, 3g doses 5x/day had no notable side effecs over 7 days. Niacinamide, vitamin B3, can be used at 1g dose 6x/day as a precursor to build up NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine-dinucelotide) stores, but recommendations from self-experimenters would point at low levels of 100mg 3x/day being better and more sustainable. Others have used niacminade at the higher doses for long periods to help with alcohol and nicotine addiction, but potential side-effects including sedation should be researched. I think you should consider supplementing taurine at the level of 3g or 5g 5x or 3x per day, or as you see fit, but that 15g is tolerable and could translate to improved recovery from stroke.
