Australian scientists have created an apple that does not go brown when cut open. The new variety - called Enchanted - stays pale pink for several hours after being exposed to air. The apple was bred naturally in Australia from the varieties Lady Williams and Golden Delicious without genetic modification.

Western Australia's state agriculture minister Kim Chance said he believed the apple's unique qualities would make it popular everywhere. 'The anti-browning, combined with the fact that it is not genetically modified, means it will be acceptable right around the world.' The new apple would be useful and attractive.
