A number of major news websites have disappeared from the internet this morning following wild storms across south-eastern Australia.

Ninemsn and SBS are some of the casualties suspected to be the result of a major power failure at Hostworks servers located in Adelaide.

"We've had a minor infrastructure glitch this morning which lead to some outages," Hostworks managing director Marty Gauvin.

Mr Gauvin declined to confirm that the outage was the result of severe winds and storms, which battered Adelaide yesterday.

"I'm aware of potential causes, but our investigations are continuing."
