Jonathan Haidt, in his book 'The Righteous Mind' states that human morality has 6 modules, or taste buds. These are largely intuitive. They are the Care/Harm foundation, Fairness/Cheating, Loyalty/Betrayal, Authority/Subversion, Sanctity/Degradation, and Liberty/Oppression. According to Haidt, they did some tests and research, and found that liberals mainly respond to 2 moral taste buds, while conservatives respond to all 5. This was before the 6th taste bud (Liberty/Oppression) was 'discovered' or proposed. Liberals respond to the Care/Harm taste bud and the Fairness/Cheating. For example, equality, which usually means equality of outcome, unfettered immigration, minority rights, and all manner of rights for all groups, without obligation. It is easy to see the three moral taste buds that are lacking in liberal morality, and the results!
The consevative morality can easily be hi-jacked by psychopaths also, like, you are with us or against us, the war on terror etc. But today, even a republican administration is claiming the right to protect, like Venezeula, Syria etc. I think that Trump is a true republican, but the establishment are ALL neoliberal! T.J Coles said there are status quo neoliberals, who favour slow progressive policy, and there is the fast track neoliberals, who want to destroy the status quo and implement policy quickly via force, if necessary. The right to protect and humanitarian wars of intervention, and environmentalism/veganism are liberal morals. Just like the anti-smoking hysteria. I guess the point I am making is twofold. First, a global system of governance can only be implemented and sustained on a liberal moral model. Consevatives are parochial! The UN is a liberal entity, at least in this morality regard. Second, the lack of trust and betrayal, the cheating etc, in political circles is really a powder keg awaiting a match! This is not good at all!
